I have recently booked an Qantas Award ticket to Europe on CX, and have done requested seat selections via Qantas.

Now using checkmytrip.com I can see my itinerary as well as the equivalent CX reservation number on CUPID. So when I checked my booking on cathaypacific.com.au, the CX legs of the booking shows up and it gave me the option to add Asia Miles membership number to it. Currently it registers my Qantas FF number.

I am thinking of instead of having Qantas frequent flyer number in my booking, I would just add my Asia Miles number instead. Now I know I would earn no Asia Miles on award ticket (unless they are generous), but my theory is that if I add my Asia Miles number on Cathay Pacific legs I may be able to have greater range of seat selections than if I am a Qantas FF member (lowly Bronze). May someone confirm that it is OK to do this, and have done this before? Or would it jeopdise my confirmed e-ticket?

Also slightly OT, normally how many days would Qantas charge your credit card after issuing the award ticket?

Why not just call or email CX and ask for the seat allocations you want? Unless you hold top tier status with Asia Miles you are unlikely to have access to the blocked seats. In my experience, CX only blocks the exit rows and bassinet positions.

That would depend on how quickly Qantas processes the transaction.

I booked a Oneworld award in 2007 and it took 6 weeks for the transaction to appear on the credit card. I purchased 2 Oneworld awards in March 2009 and the transaction appeared on my credit card a few days later.

Whenever I pay with AMEX, it shows the next day for me. Whenever I use Visa it could take days, the most it took was 5 days to show up ... (ANZ)
