Do you have to a bag tag to use the bag drop, and if two people are traveling on the same ticket, do you have start over, when the second person puts his bag through?
You must have a bag tag on your bag before you go to the auto bag drop as the machine needs to scan either the barcode on a thermal tag or the RFID chip inside the Qtag. If you don't have Qtags you will need to go to a kiosk first. Remember that a Qtag will work for anyone - they don't have to be used solely by the person they were issued to.
Thermal bag tags (paper ones) 2 pax on one booking doing OLCI
On entering the terminal go to a Next Gen kiosks & scan your OLCI boarding pass by holding it face up on the silver ledge of kiosk. There is no need to touch the screen first just scan one of the boarding passes & it will say something like "are you adding bags" so touch the "yes" button.
The screen should then display both names with the comment "already checked in". Touch the "select all" button so it ticks the box next to both of your names then touch the red "continue" button.
The next screen will have a list of options to choose from:
- Print boarding pass
- Print bag tags
- Change seat
- Add a frequent flyer number
Additionally some people might also see the following eg if QP/SG/WP/CL on a flexible fare:
- Upgrade to business class
- Change flight
Select the second option "print bag tags" then a screen will ask you if you have any dangerous goods, so assuming you don't select "no" then the next screen tells you that you can't take sharps in your carry on so touch "continue" button.
The final screen says "how many bags (meaning checked bags - not carry on) do you have
without a Qtag". Think of the question as asking you "how many paper tags do you need" eg in your case if you have two checked bags (no Qtags) so tick the box next to each name indicating one bag each & the bag tags & the Next Gen Kiosk will issue two tags plus issue a Customer Baggage Receipt.
- Attach the tags to the bags then make your way to the Next Gen auto bag drop.
- Scan either of the boarding passes then put the suitcase upright on the belt.
- The screen will say ask if it is fragile, click no then it will ask if you need a tub, click no again.
- The bar code on your bag tag will be scanned then your bag will be injected. Note before you put the next bag up ensure the first bag has moved completely out of the chute onto the bag conveyor belt.
- The screen will then ask you "any more bags" so click "yes" then put the second bag on the belt & repeat process. Note that you do not need to scan the second boarding pass as both of you are linked & baggage is pooled.
- Once second bag has gone click "no" when it asks if you have any more bags then you're done so head off to security.
