Hi,

I am wanting to lock in my travel dates for my Fiji trip in December. When I select 4 business class tickets it gives me the option of Book Now, Pay Later.

If I select this option, how much does the price change? Is it just taxes and surcharge or can the actual set price change too?

I am trying to work out how much extra money it would end up costing?

Any suggestions appreciated?

When my mate did this for Y MEL to US return almost a year ago, the price changed by a small amount (a few dollars at most). Base price did not change, only fees and taxes, due to exchange rate or something similar. My only concern would be a significant change in fuel fines, but given they only hold the fares for a couple of days, I wouldn't be too concerned.

Thank you Admel for the reply, much appreciated!

The booking would not need to be paid until mid December, which would be two weeks before departure...... So if I could get away with keeping my $7k in the bank longer I would be happier!

Thanks again:)

I've just checked the Qantas website, which states:

While your booking is on hold, the total ticket price may change due to amendments in surcharges, taxes and fare adjustments.

Given this, I'd wait for someone more knowledgeable than me to give you a definitive answer, or failing that, call Qantas and ask.

If anything changes then you pay the changes, until a fare is ticketed the seat is locked in but the amount is not!

Thank you Markis10.

Can't see the point in paying later than!

Appreciated for all the advice, thanks everyone.

What it does do is get you a fare bucket, so if the fares in that bucket sell out you have an advantage, in the case of the NAN run for instance it books into D rather than J, grabbing a D bucket fare now for Xmas is wise given J will shoot up to 3K on that leg as an example.

Admel, I appreciated your input!

Markis10, you have responded to my questions before, I am a novice at this, so I thank you again for taking the time to increase my knowledge!:p

Sorry for the big bump, but I'm a little confused on the application of the hold this seat feature.

I may grab a fare per-fra-per in the current sale, the ticket cost is 1856. If I pay 25 and hold the seat, will that price be available to me no matter what else happens, as long as I purchase before the end of the sale and before my hold expires? Of is the fare available for others to buy and possibly stuffing up the fare I held?

I only ask because the availability is <6 for the outbound leg.

Thanks for anyone that can help :)

Have you checked how long you can hold it for, a lot of the book now pay later sale fares have the same deadline as the sale deadline for obvious reasons. If you are only looking at holding it for a few days, then its unlikely to vary much and will hold at the level in most cases.

Hold this seat Confirm this seat today and pay by Thu 12 Jan 2012 (AEST).
Just select pay later on the payment page.
Not available for Points Plus Pay.

Thanks for your very prompt assistance markis10, I didn't have time to respond yesterday, however on your advice I did hold my booking for $25.

However I have since found a fare that I like rather better (why fly direct...;)) and is in fact $26 cheaper than the fare I held, so in a way I make a dollar :p

The way I understand it is that, as mentioned, it holds a seat for you in the specific fare bucket. However, if they decide to change the fare of that bucket, then the ticket price would also change accordingly. Basically, all it does is that, for a small amount, it guarantees you a ticket in the specific fare bucket, but the actual price itself can change.

Perhaps it’s worth experimenting with for anyone that has $25 spare. I’m thinking, holding the fare/seat for months and as the day approaches seeing how much the cost rises or falls. By the time of the flight you just elect to let it lapse and are $25 out of pocket.

I’d do it, but I need every $25 I’ve got :p

Also note if you pay for the booking via the phone, the $25 holding deposit is not refunded.

Anyone have experience of doing this book now pay later, then wanting to change the dates of one of the sectors? Do you have to start again or can you make the change and keep the hold?
