Does anyone know why the Mexican Cantina hasn't re-opened yet in the Qantas Brisbane Domestic Business Lounge? Wouldn't think staffing is the challenge given all other themed food has re-opened across the network in the other business lounges.

There are reports on this forum of it being open within the last month but it seems very hit and miss. The last few times I've been through it has been closed. Definitely not as available as the Spice Bar in MEL or the Pizza Bar in PER.

It closed well before covid.

The station itself remains (now called "The Oven") but is unthemed, and just serves generic hot food. I have seen it open since covid but very rarely. I haven't flown through BNE for a few months now. Not really missing much.

I was in there last week & nothing was open. Pretty disappointing to be honest. The food choice was pretty average. Melbourne is by far the best business lounge experience.

We've had this conversation to death on AFF, recently too. A mod should probably merge this into that thread.

Evening peak and still not open....which has been the case for the last few weeks....seems a waste when they actually have the infrastructure. The oven dishes were always the best, now just unappealing bucket slop.

It’s been hopeless since the day it was built - rarely open, even at peak times.

COVID has nothing to do with it.

The BNE J Lounge was nice when it opened, but is now fairly “meh”.

Yet another wasted space in an "updated" J lounge. The old J lounge, now Chairmans Lounge, was better even though very busy during peak times. IMHO, it's been "meh" and very ord since the upgrade.:(

It was open last Wednesday afternoon, but closed before the evening peak. 🤷‍♂️
The strange opening times have always puzzled me. I once asked if they were serving as they were standing about behind the counter and they looked astonished at 1pm that someone wanted food.

I never had issues with it being closed when it was the Cantina.

The only good thing about the BNE J lounge is that the bar is usually well staffed, so they can make coffee while another makes drinks - in SYD it's often one person doing both unless it's very busy. Someone ordering coffee on a Friday afternoon with one staff member - you can hear the audible groans from the queue!

I quite liked the Cantina. I doubt anybody would complain about it now, given the current options.

The last 2 times I have been in there, the former cantina has been serving a baked penne pasta dish.

OK (and better than the SYD lounge with its lack of any special offering above the usual slops), but I noticed when I was there last Friday that the ovens look identical to the pizza ovens at PER - if they are unsure what to do with them, just cook the same damned pizzas that they do in PER! These pizzas would hold their own on South Terrace/ Lygon St, and IMO are the best lounge food in the country outside of the SYD/MEL FLounges.

Wow that’s a big call! It was a pokey space that wasn’t fit for purpose imo.

Just like the priority boarding thread which could equally be shutdown, be prepared for some upside sometimes and downside sometimes.

I may have been jaded by the interruption when the updates were occurring just like in mel when the renovations caused upheaval. Hence I’m not looking forward to Syd dom being upgraded.

From a space perspective though do you think the new one is worse than the old?

I'ts bigger, but I still believe there is a lot of wasted space.

Interesting. The last time I was BNE Dom J, I left to go to the QPub which had party pies as the J lounge had nothing hot that wasnt vego (just pumpkin soup).
