QANTAS Business Class Any Seat Award

Welcome vasso.

Known around these parts as a ASA (or JASA for Business class), these are awards tickets that you can pay for with your QFF points, or a combination of points plus pay.

The difference between these and a classic awards is that they can be purchased on any flight, at any time - whereas only a limited amount of Classic awards are released and generally only available on selected flights at selected times.

ASA's can occur a small premium over a normal classic award depending on demand for the route.

Some other differences between ASA's and classic awards:

  • ASA's also earn full points and status credits for the class of travel.
  • ASA's can also be upgraded to a higher class of travel using your QFF points (as per normal you'll only earn the points/SC's at your original booked class of travel).

Full information on these awards is available from the QF website:
Frequent Flyer - Using Points - Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Awards

ASA's can be booked by visiting:

Qantas has two types of award.

1. Classic Awards.
Fixed redemption rate based on distance and class of service. Limited availability. No earning of mileage or SCs.

2. Any seat awards
Variable redemption rate based on some formula that only QF knows - related somewhat to cost of the seat. Can be very expensive for J and F, ocassionally can be the same price as Classic. Able to earn mileage and SCs

The focus on JASAs on this board is that there are some 'good value' runs where the any seat award is roughly the same number of points as the classic, and thus provides a way for people to effecitvely trade in points to earn status / SCs.

At the end of the day the Classic Award, if available, will generally be cheaper, but it certainly means you should always look at a comparable Any Seat.

Well I just really caught on to Any Seat Awards when I could not select a seat for MrsCove in First next June as she has been relegated to Bronze by QF recently. My son and I are ok as Silver but not the big cheese.
144,000 points to LAX plus $198.38 one way from Oz still looks like a great way to use points.
I need to do some JASA's for her!

Always check both options, its possible for a JASA to be significantly cheaper, for instance if I was looking at going to Ozfest from Townsville, JASA is 30K while the classic in J is 50K :), think I will go the classic

Agree with your post 100%. It’s getting silly when people can’t do a simple search and read what’s already posted on their own.

Hmm...maybe ignorant, perhaps lazy. Some posters are like freshmen. A simple OP may lead to valuable exchange of info and tips. Let's be helpful, share and learn.

I looked at Any SEAT long haul to LAX and the points were a joke quantity so after about 6 views / attempts I put it off the radar. There is no way I need to burn more than a million points on one flight so I have gone Kris points when the offer was not competitive.
Now I can see it is working domestically at reasonable figures so this thread renewed my interest in a system that I had binned for long haul.
Thanks for persisting.
