Qantas classic flight RTW - partially flown, remaining flights cancelled. Options?

My partner and I redeemed Qantas' Classic RTW reward in August 2019 for travel in December 2019 and March 2020. We purchased a 1 year travel insurance in August 2019.

We have flown the legs for December 2019, and when coronavirus was looking to worsen and spread, we changed our March 2020 legs to November 2020. The March legs did not eventuate after all as well.

Now, Qantas has finally cancelled the November 2020 legs (no emails received - just checked online in portal).

I called Qantas to find out the options and were told that the RTW flights 1 year expiry cannot be extended. I.e. my RTW ticket will expire in December 2020 despite the fact that I have 3 more legs/counties to travel and these will be cancelled and does not seem that I'll be compensated for the cancellation.

The customer service noted that potentially I could get some points back, but could not tell me how many and hung up on me when "investigating". Even if I could get some points back, I am afraid they might just refund say 10% of the points as my legs in December were also long haul.

Given that we were able to change the flights from march 2020 to November 2020, I doubt the insurance policy will cover it (have yet to check), especially given that the fact our policy is only to August 2020. I checked with the insurance in march, and was told that extending the policy by another year will not cover the Coronavirus events in the new policy as it is now a known event.

Has anyone used a classic rewards RTW and partially completed some legs. Were you able to get your RTW flight ticket extended? If not, did you get some points refunded? If so, how was it calculated?

Note: there is no options of refund or flight credit on my online booking, just "call Qantas".

Thanks!

...I will call again. I just checked 2 days ago and they say the rewards validity could not be extended ...
And HUACA, and again and again, if necessary. Yes, it’s a real pain. Usually no point arguing.

The Call Centre response does not surprise me. Lack of knowledge, laziness or incompetence.

I have found Cape Town and Manila to be the worst (open 24/7). Hopefully you will get Oz (from about 7.00am to 11.00pm, Hobart time, 7 days) or Auckland (24/7), but it’s the luck of the draw who picks up.

There are reports of a 12-month extension to the Qantas oneworld Award. Is that what you mean?

I have been able to change the dates of a oneworld award to beyond the 12-month validity of the ticket.
It's a newer change maybe 2 months ago. You can extend beyond the 12 month validity now, but you must maintain the same routing and carriers.

Edit: And welcome to AFF

Thanks. I will call again. I just checked 2 days ago and they said the rewards validity could not be extended. Will keep everybody updated. Hopefully I don't have to do too many 2hrs hold while waiting for customer service or being hung up!

Thanks for replying!

And thank you for your warm welcome. Hopefully everybody will get to travel soon :)
