Hi There - not having travelled internationally (other than quick flights to Asia) for over a decade - I was hoping someone on here might be able to help me.

My first question is - will I have access to the lounge above? I'm flying Sydney into LAX and then onto SFO later that morning. My flight is being booked through Qantas, though the LAX>SFO is marked as an AA flight.

Reading the Qantas Club conditions of access it deems that I need to be on a Qantas marked flight - so this suggests I wouldn't be eligible? I'm not platinum/gold and only flying economy.

My other question is in relation to how the transfer works. I assume because I'm going int/domestic that I will need to collect my bags and pass customs/immigration. What happens next? Do i have to re-check in? Is there a transfer facility that keeps me airside (or at this stage am i landside already?)

Thanks in advance for what I appreciate are newbie questions

Hi baggyred,

You will have access to the Admirals Club lounge at LAX - it is a partner lounge so access comes under these conditions:

Eligibility and Access to The Qantas Club lounges

You clear immigration/customs at LAX, collecting your bags, going landside and then re-check them in just after the exit at a nearby point that was easy enough even for me as a first timer.

Yes, clear immigration/customs then collect bags. As you get to the top of ramp (either side), there's an area (near the right-hand-side) that just rechecks your bags -> as long as you have enough connection time.

The main issue I've ever had there is lack of connection time. When QANTAS picks the connection times, they seem to always go with anything above an hour. I always try to schedule it with about 3 hours to make sure I don't have an issue and that I'm not stressing about making the connection. I've had a number of times where it's taken over an hour in the arrivals hall. Add to that the chance that your incoming flight might be delayed, and it can get very tight indeed. I've also seen the economy security line in the AA terminal quite long. (Fortunately I didn't have to go in that one).

Is AA definitely the other carrier? AA also sells flights to SFO on Alaska. Getting into the Alaska terminal is usually quicker than the AA terminal.

I've got 4 hours between landing and take-off, so should be right

I'm on AA1928 out of Terminal 4

Eastflyer - thanks for that - however the conditions on that link still state it needs to be a QF flight.

For some reason my link didn't come through properly. See the section immediately above - "Access to Partner airline lounges."

Note: both you and your guest must be travelling together and have onward travel that day on a flight marketed and operated by the partner airline whose lounge you wish to visit.
