Welcome to AFF!

I've never had a problem having someone check in with me, particularly if we're on the same PNR (but even if they're not). It may be stretching the friendship turning up with a football team of friends but certainly one, maybe two, should not be an issue regardless.

Not sure exactly what checkin benefits QC members are entitled to these days (they changed last year I think), but I think domestically with hand luggage only you could checkin in the lounge, and internationally they still have QC checkin desks (or use business desks if no QC).

I think that was a long-winded way of saying 'yes'. :)

On this note, has the QP checkin counter disappeared at Singapore airport? It used to be lumped in with the business counter, from memory, and this has moved to the premium check-in area for first and business. Anyone have experience here?

Haven't been to SIN recently but noticed in Sydney the QC check in is now at the Premium Economy counters.

Same in BNE, if PE is available from that port, QC, PS and OWR go to the PE counter, while SG and OWS take the J counter, and WP, CL and OWE take the F counter.

Was no PE counter either on Sunday afternoon. Just 4 Qantas economy counters and no semblance of order or a neat queue. Was quite odd for Singapore really.

Thanks for your help guys. Another question is QP lounge international in MEL same as business class lounge?

At interational ports, Qantas uses the term 'Business Lounge' instead of Qantas Club but they are one in the same. Here's some more info on the QF website.

I was at Changi late Sunday afternoon, and the Y+ check-in counter was still in row 5 where it normally would be, while the normal Y counters were in row 6, about 3 or 4 of them.

Ah, I know the issue. For once I came from the other side, as the taxi dropped me off closer to row 6, and I didn't even remember to go to row 5. I thought it all looked a bit different... Silly me

QP dedicated check-in at domestic terminals is dead as a dodo much to the annoyance of members. Previously QP (QF Club) pax & even PS (F/Flyer Silver) could check in at the Qantas Club/Business Class checkin counters but now with the introduction of Next Gen checkin the Premium Checkin queue is only for Chairmans Lounge (CL) Business Class, Platinum (WP) & F/Flyer Gold (SG) pax.

QP's must now use the Next Gen kiosks & auto bag drop along with everyone else.

Haven't flown internationally for a while so can't comment on what happens at international terminals.

OT;
Since SIN has been mentioned, l'd like to say that the SIN J Lounge is better than the QF/BA F Lounge.

I think I have to revisit the SIN J lounge sometime. The F lounge IMHO has been unfairly maligned on AFF for ages now.

In saying that I have to admit it's been some years since I was in the J lounge there, and as far as the F lounge goes, it's no SYD or MEL (not that I would expect it to be), but apart from it filling up when the QF/BA flights come through in the evening, I think it's quite a nice lounge. but maybe my memory is playing tricks on me...a side-by-side comparison next time seems to be in order. :)

I didn't mean to stir up a hornets nest here. But, when l went through the last few times; The J lounge Bathrooms+Showers were fantastic!Had hot food Had a viewThe F Lounge;I didn't visit the showers or bathroomsNo hot food No view Same booze. Better atmosphere in the J lounge too. So, to all those QF Gold's and OW Sapphire's out there, don't worry, your not missing out on anything.

I agree, I must admit I only did a quick walk through so can't comment on the showers in J lounge but I felt it had better self serve food options ( I know F lounge they bring around hot food, but it isn't great) and there are tvs in the J lounge too as well as the view

Next time I'm in SIN if it's not too busy will probably stick with the J lounge

No angry hornets here. :)

I'll definitely try to do a comparison next time I'm at SIN...I may well find the J lounge preferable to F.

Done it heaps of times... Never a problem.. We booked about 10 people in via the Qp there was 5 qp members and we all had a guest and no probs at all.... The booking agent took all our id's and did it then paged one of us to get our boarding passes... Worked perfectly and we all sat together... we did it in TSV...

Thought I might add this in as well, since we are on the topic of SIN.

The Y+ check-in counter also serves QP, PS, and SG members, and also their OW equivalents. All J/F, WP, and OWE travelers use the premier check-in lounge. As usually, there are only 1 or 2 Y+ counters, you may find the shared BA/QF "online check-in/bag drop" counters next to them to be quicker.

As for the lounges, both the J and F lounges can become overcrowded during peak hours. There is nothing between the 2, really. You may get better food and drinks in 1 or the other, depending somewhat on luck. Although, if the weather is good, and don't mind paying for a drink or 2, I much prefer the outdoor Harry's bar.
