Hi everyone

Just a quick question today. I noticed while viewing my QFF summary this morning that I now have an additional line item telling me that my QC membership expires on 31 July 2011.

As a Platinum member, I'm surprised that this line has been added as I thought my QC membership was complementary.

Anyone have any thoughts on the above?

Sounds like a line that makes sense if someone is a Bronze or Silver Qantas Club member , or is a Gold FF member ( since a Gold member may have a purchased suspended membership which will last beyond the expiry of gold membership )

Having lifetime gold, the line seems pointless especially since ( on mine ) the value is blank

Assuming no change to dropping 1 level should a platinum member not requalify , then it seems an odd line unless it takes into account the gold year and any remaining paid membership period

( I think that the QF Club membership is complimentary rather than complementary though )

Dave

It does seem like an odd addition - I certainly can't remember the last time I paid for QC membership having had SG/WP status for most of last decade.

Mine states that QC membership expires in Dec 10 (4 months after my status year ends in Sep 10 as I haven't requalified for WP yet this year), but if I didn't make WP I would drop back to SG which still entitles me to free QC membership - so the line on the Qantas website should really read Dec 11 as that's the first time I'd need to purchase a renewal assuming I stop flying from today.

Haven't made Lifetime Gold quite yet but again it does seem odd to include that line once you get to that stage.

Sounds like the Qantas web kids may have got their if statements mixed up. What's the phrase again - "never ascribe to conspiracy that which can be adequately explained by incompetence".

Handy for me as a PS - says it expires 31 March 2010 which is the anniversary of when I took it out. Well it was the first time I've paid for my own having had either SG or corporate membership. Now I'm self-employed I had to pay my own way :( but at least this way I get a reminder to renew it. I got the paperwork recently anyway.

No it doesn't make sense for others but I guess it's a "one size fits all" measure from the Qantas IT department.

It could be useful in some cases.

Say, when a PS member with multi year QP - they may see status re-assessment as OCT 2010 but QP membership valid until MAY 2011.

I see similar to what Dave Noble sees.

Interestingly, my wife was PQP when I attained Partner Gold and her status re-assessment date was changed to coincide with mine.

However, her account shows:

Code:
Status reassessment will occur: 31 Oct 2010

Qantas Club will expire: 31 December 2010

From an IT perspective, IMHO this should not have got past system testing; especially if multiple date displays were planned.

I'm not LTG, but have LT QP - and the date field is blank on my account page too.

Not quite sure what this adds in utility or readability...

Mine says:

Status reassessment will occur: 31 Oct 2010
Qantas Club will expire: 31 January 2011

I think its handy, I last paid for QP in 1997 so I had no idea what QP membership was being held for me as far as residual goes, I would also imagine it will tick over as soon as my SG gets renewed offically as well.

I wonder though if this is an indication that soft landings are on their way out?

That too is my fear. I was contemplating taking a year of less travel and not re-qualifying for WP until next year (am WP thru to Feb 2011). If the soft landings are on their way out, i'll have to at least re-qual for SG as I only have a few months of paid QP in the bank.

Interestingly, although my status year runs until 31 March 2010, my summary page shows that (I assume because I have already earned enough SCs to requalify for SG) my status will not be reassessed until 31 March 2011 - I am sure this is new. My QP expiry is 31 March 2012 - 1 full year after my SG would expire if I did not requalify by 31 March 2011??

I did have a paid QP membership before I qualified for SG, but I can't remember when it was due to expire or when it was suspended!

I wouldn't think so. Soft landings are not a published benefit, just a current procedure, and as such it would be unusual to see this effectively promised on the web site by showing an extended data.

It would seem that this is a relatively simplistic calculation, which simply takes current status reassessment date and the end of any PG or WP period currently locked in, and adds any residual suspended QP which may be around. Someone has at least had the sense to sort of remove nonsensical information for anyone with a life time status.

Logically, once SG requalification is attained (even if currently WP), then you would expect the date to roll out another year. If WP, and not reached SG requalification level, then the date would not be expected to be extended until the SG is "comped" for the soft landing.

Mine shows

Code:
Status reassessment will occur: 31 Oct 2010
Qantas Club will expire: 31 October 2010

You'd think someone would have notcied the different date formats.

At least from this addition people will know how much paid QP they have remaining. I suspect that like me most people would have had no idea of this until now.

I like it. As someone who pays for QP it's nice to know.

Qantas Club will expire:31 July 2011

I better start saving. :)

I believe I had 3 months - as a LTG I'll not know from this ...

Having no status, it simply shows:

Code:
Current Status: Bronze
Qantas Club will expire:31 May 2010

Useful for me in that sense.

Clearly this one leaves a little breathing space - probably too much unused 'credit' (for want of a better word).

Status reassessment will occur: 28 Feb 2011
Qantas Club will expire: 31 October 2012
