Back in May there was a thread and resulting email offer from Qantas about joining Qantas Club for a reduced fee ie with the joining fee waivered. Didn'tt ake it up at the time as my intended travel was too far off.

Today, two=three months after the initial offer had expired I called Q and optimistically asked if I could still get the offer. Turns out they have extended the offer for at least another two weeks.

I had the impression from the operator they were going to be doing telephone follow-up as well on people whom hadn't responded to the initial offer.

I'm happy as I'll get the membership and enjoy the benefits while flitting around Europe as I don't fly that much.

I guess they want to ramp up memberships preparing for the introduction of a more enhanced Virgin program?

I kinda remember that thread. I think though that the membership cost (although reduced) was still not even clsoe to the corporate rates people can get.

For example I got 3 years QC for only AU$297. I then salary sacrificed this and got almost half my money back :-).

I'm in the middle of my second year now but thanks to becomming Gold will have this extended another 12 months.

How much was the rate Qantas quoted you?

Regards
Daniel

$330 for a year.

I can accept that this is the retail rate but I have an annual spend with Qantas of about 10 cents and a staff of 3. I wouldn't be surprised if my current FF status is "bauxite" hoping to upgrade to aluminum real soon.

(Reminiscing I can recall when the Regional Qantas manager dropped in my award kit when I made Gold back in Feb 1992 but I have since changed careers and seen that disappear each year!)

I have been advised that there is a real refinement in available privileges between Bauxite and Aluminium status'. :D

Actually, the benefits refinement is between Bauxite and Alumina (a white powder) status levels. Moving from Alumina to Aluminium is not refinement, but smelting. So that may imply that the benefits smelt away as you move up the chain???

There are special FF rates between Weipa & Gladstone for Bauxite benefits. Alumina gets you special deals going to China!
