I've had my lifetime club membership since Feb99 and during that time seen the benefits slowly whittled away. I thought as a life member that I was entitled to an additional guest (ie me +2) when flying. Did this used to be the case (along with anytime access), or am I just getting old and senile?

I'm sure that I've sat in the Tokyo lounge with 2 guests after a weekend in Japan.

Yes, as a QC life member, you indeed could take 2 gusets...can't remember when that was changed, tho....I think you had to use 2 guest cards tho

IIRC - and it's pretty hazy, QP (Life) used to have one guest access, but you could bring in a 2nd using the "guest passes" they used to give out.

Normal QP used to have no guest access, but they could bring in one guest using the passes.

It all changed when they phased out the usage of guest passes.

I think Mal's memory is better than mine as his version sounds about right...

The only positive out of all of these changes is that I expensed the membership fee years ago, so look at it as 'free' membership now. It still p1sses me off though when Qantas gradually take away more and more benefits.

Not sure what differences there were for life members, but paid non-lifetime QP members, certainly at least from when I joined in 2002, could take at least (and that was probably the limit) 2 guests in using 2 x guest passes (a limited number of these were issued to members each year). This changed in ~June 2004, from when the number of guests per visit was limited to one, but no pass was required (they became obsolete).

My memory is a bit hazy too but I seem to recall that it was two and guest passes weren't required.

I had remembered the changes as taking place in May 2005 along with other enhancements such as discontinuing the issue of upgrade credits and making some deeply discounted fare classes ineligible for upgrading.

The reason I remember 2004 as being when the change to guest numbers occurred was because I went to Japan for several weeks and 2 guests were allowed when I left, though I was travelling alone outbound, and upon return (NRT-SYD-MEL) I tried to guest 2 friends into SYD domestic, and was told sorry, the rules have changed, only one allowed. Got 'em both in, but that's another story. :)

Aw - when you get older time sort of compresses. So it could well have been 2004 :)

I'm certain Qantas issued me with guest passes as part of my QP life membership. What were they for?

I got those passes as well..........I have never used them in all these years.....Odd
Now that I've open my gate, they'll change the rules,we are due for fine print upgrade

Cheers:lol:

QP members received 10 Guest passes per year; partner QP 5. Those with status based QP access received 10 as well.

Domestically, a member could use them all at once, one by one or somewhere in between.

These ceased being useful in June 2004 where they were done away with and guest access was changed to a blanket maximum of one guest per visit for QP members.

Thanks for the input everyone. I guess it shows I haven't been flying Qantas enough to notice the changes.

Thats OK JOC469......All airlines are always changing rules ,you'll get use to it......:)
