Hey everyone,

Would appreciate some help with a problem I've got.

My wife is flying MEL-LAX in a couple of weeks and I don't have the chance to join her on this trip. As I have platinum status, I've always been able to take her in to the lounge with me when we fly. What is the best way for me to get her into the international lounge in MEL?

Obviously a complimentary invitation is the best option, however I haven't been sent one for a long time.

Thanks for your assistance.

I don't know how they do it, but I know it's possible for Qantas to print a status on someone elses pass. A long time ago my Mum was flying and I wanted her to use the lounge. I went with her as a Gold member to check in, and they printed my status and number on her pass ... (No points were ever recorded on my QFF though, they appeared on her own QFF).

But I'd say they can't do this with the new so called software that stops them from doing anything basic!

If you are a WP, wouldn't your wife have complimentary SG that will allow her entry to the lounge anyway? Just not the Flounge.

WP takes 1 400 status credits to gain and 1 200 to retain. It's an extra 1 100 or 1 300 points to reach the 2 500 for "Partner Gold". Platinum is hard enough, but you've got to do some serious flying to get PG.

PS level comes with a single-use lounge pass, and these come up on eBay from time to time. However, most unclubbed Silvers are naturally keen to get some lounge access, so they aren't as easy to come by as one might think.

Not necessarily - there is an additional SC earn after you have qualified for WP to enable partner gold. My wife had to travel to SYD by herself once when I was WP and they would not let her into the QP at T2 despite a very polite ask.

ixit,

Welcome to AFF.

I'm sure you'll agree that the chances of lounge access are slim, so the only possible suggestions are:

  1. Ring the lounge and ask nicely,
  2. Post the flight times on line and if someone is travelling at the same time they may guest her into the lounge.
  3. Buy your wife QP membership.

PG level is actually 2,100 SCs in one's "Year".

That's 700 from initial WP qualification and 900 from WP Re-qualification.
