Hi

My partner and I are arriving 4 hours apart at Melbourne airport. He will be there at 6pm and I will be there at 10pm. I have a qantas club invite and was wondering whether he could stay at the Qantas club upon arriving in Melbourne until I get there?

Or is Qantas club access only available upon departure?

Thanks :)

Officially QP access is available for members/J class pax with a departing flight on Qantas/Jetstar/Oneworld the same day (except for platinums who get in any time.)

In the past I've bluffed my way in when I wasn't travelling and was meeting someone who was flying in; depends how busy they are and what sort of a mood the desk dragons are in. Can't hurt to try, particularly if he can provide the details of your flight to show he's not making it up.

You should be ok. If you have come off a QF flight, they are usually ok about letting you in.

Some of the old QC invites did not even require that you be travelling - but I think recently issues invites do have this requirement (written on the back). Have a look on the back.

To be strictly correct, the answer is no ;-), if he can get in, he will be ejected around 9:20pm when the last JQ flight starts boarding. But that's still about three hours, so worth at least trying as per posts above.

Thanks for the prompt replies! :)

Another Q, what happens to his luggage? Can he go and get his checked luggage and then enter the qantas club?

Also I noticed that to get to QC in Melbourne you might have to go past security - on the Qantas website it says it is "Via escalator, first floor after security". Will that be ok if he has his suitcase? And does he need another boarding pass to get through security??

Sorry for all the questions!!!

This is generally ok as long as there is nothing in his bag that couldn't be taken onboard a plane.

Also, if it's a large bag he might not be too popular with security. And if it's too big for x-ray, then the answer is no.

As per odoherty, except to add - there is a luggage storage facility (fees payable) in the (landside) arrivals area of the International Terminal, on the Qantas domestic side. [T2 Ground Floor, near walkway to T1]

And does he need another boarding pass to get through security??
Not into MEL T1. As a "general rule" you don't need a boarding pass to go through domestic security in Australia, of course there are a few exceptions like MEL T4.

Of course you could leave it spinning around on the luggage carousel...... however they don't look too kindly upon that either

Funny you should mention this point.

Late last year I travelled NAA-MRZ-SYD-WGA/ABX-SYD on the same day and I could only check my bags through to first stop in SYD. We arrrived late in SYD and I had no option other than to leave the bag wandering round and round the carousel. I got a phone call from QF when I was in WGA asking what had happened and I explained the situation and it was no problem to pick up the luggage when I returned to SYD later that afternoon.

Did not have the same the luck travelling SYD-CBR on DJ in February. Arrived into CBR mid afternoon and went to the QF Lounge to do some printing and send some emails. Less than half an hour later I got a call from a DJ employee asking if I had left some luggage behind and that it was a federal offence not to collect it. OK no problem, I explained that I had been feeling sick and I will be there in 5 minutes to collect it. What else can you say? What else can you do?
