Hi,
I have searched many threads, but can't see the answer I require.

We are heading to Europe later this year. With the new alliance, will I still be able to get my wife in the Emirates lounge if we fly Emirates or another one world partner?
I am a Qantas club member only.

Thanks.

another instance of Qantas not living up to the hype. What happened to the promise to take the best of the exisiting benefits and maintain them and no customer to be disadvantaged

from an email on 6th September:

For members with lounge access, the opportunity to use more than 80 dedicated Emirates and Qantas lounges around the world.

This just adds to the loss of checked baggage allowance and points when flying with several other airlines

Yes, I remember those emails. Particularly around the time when I renewed my QP membership. Obviously complete bollocks (a synonym for a shorter 3-letter word beginning with 'l').

And in the lead-up to the change and even now ...

Frequent Flyer - Earning Points - Fly - Emirates Partnership FAQs
"The current lounge benefits for Qantas Club members will remain unchanged when travelling on a Qantas marketed flight."

Oh really ? Qantas is now selling numerous EK code-shares into and out of the EU. Since the previous access to BA lounges when outbound from the EU on such flights is now no longer available, the above statement would be ... hmmm... a ... ?

Once again....
It is the Qantas Club not the Qantas, American, Emirates and BA (when they feel like it) Club.

Neither BA or Emirates have a paid lounge program so it is not surprising that access is limited.

I think the point is that Qantas promised repeatedly that no one would be disadvantaged and that they would always take the better of two options. This has, sadly, not been the case when the QF product has been superior. This feels more like a takeover by EK than a JSA.

Where is the disadvantage.
Access in Syd/Mel/other Aus ports. Yes.
Access at intermediate port (now Dubai). Yes.
Access at London. Yes

Lack of access to BA lounges generally happened more than 12 months ago.

Given EK has no paid options, I think Qantas Club members have done better than I certainly expected.

Disadvantage is lounge access EU outbound, as stated. Had it before via BA. Don't have it now with EK.

And access to BA lounges when outbound from the EU was there up until 3 days ago, not 12 months. I know because I was in those EU lounges in recent months.
Eligibility and Access to The Qantas Club Lounges | Qantas
"Until 30 March 2013, Qantas Club Members travelling between Australia and the UK via Singapore, Bangkok and Hong Kong on Qantas or British Airways services, or travelling on other British Airways flights connecting with these services, can access the British Airways Terrace, Executive and Galleries Lounges."

Whether YOU 'expected' it or not, Qantas promised it.

That is the point. It does not mater if EK or BA have payed lounge access programs. QF promised it.
BA never had a payed program but allowed the QF-Club members in for quite a long time - pecunia non olet.

The first cut was the access to BA lounges when not connecting to a QF/BA JSA flight.
Still you had access in most European Airports (and in LHR when connecting to a BA flight).

Now: No access in Europe!

How about Priortiy Pass? They do not own any lounges.
What would you think about when PP sells you a four year membership and then blocks the access to 50% of the lounges after a year?
- Bad luck. Program details may change form time to time?
- The lounge owner decided that he does not want any payed access?

Can I clarify - qantas told me on recent phone call, QC lounge access in london will be in the american airlines lounge (very strange) for international qantas flights.... Is this correct?

Yes that is correct

Qantas and Emirates depart from T3 in London.
As I see it lounge access as follows:

Qantas Elites (Gold and Plat) will have a choice of EK lounge (if on EK or QF metal), or the AA, BA or CX lounges (by oneworld access if on QF metal)
Qantas Club will have the AA lounge (via Qantas agreement with AA on either EK or QF metal)

Frequent Flyers are *not* disadvantaged by this. It's people who have paid Qantas Club membership (Which, is totally independent to the Frequent Flyer Program, it just happens to provide 'complimentary Frequent Flyer membership') that are disadvantaged.

Bottom line is that its a membership to Qantas operated lounges, where they had a reciprocal arrangement with BA due to the JSA. When they dissolved that, they opted to dissolve the reciprocal agreement.

If you purchased the Qantas Club membership with the aim of using it on BA I feel you should be entitled to a pro-rata refund possibly, but it's QF's program, and they can do as they wish as per the terms and conditions that you agreed to when you purchased said membership.
