Going by the 'Gold Savings' page, you need to spend $75 on Gold membership to save $235 on signing up to the Qantas Club.

I've just found out I can salary package it, which makes it about 45% cheaper again.

yes, if you are a qantas club member, and travelling in economy, you can always take one guest into the club with you.

I so wanted to buy this and was so tempted considering today is pay day but the $573 will be spent in Europe in just over a month instead

Since QP would get you into exactly zero lounges in continental Europe I reckon that's a pretty wise decision.
