I haven't been flying QF so much in the past year so my status recently dropped to Silver with subsequent loss of automatic Qantas Club membership (the best part of QFF Gold IMO).

The latter hasn't bothered me too much as 1) as stated I haven't been flying QF so much and 2) I often arrive just in time so I don't actually use the club that often even when flying QF.

That said it has been great when transferring (especially from international) and when flights are delayed. Now QF are offering me a renewal at $405 for 12 months (standard price) and frankly it really isn't worth that much to me for the use I get from it. Any suggestions on methods to renew at about, say, half that amount would be appreciated! ;) Well it would be worth about that to me anyway.

I was also considering leaving it a while and renewing at a later date when / if I fly QF again more frequently. But get this classic Qantas reminder letter I received today: no discount offer, only a threat that "If the Qantas Club membership is not renewed within the time permitted the Qantas Club joining fee will be payable when the membership is reactivated".

Qantas - often all stick, no carrot.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions as I won't have reliable web access for the next few days due to travelling in some more remote parts but I will be back in the big smoke later next week.

How is that "all stick, no carrot" ?

You have dropped to silver and they are letting you renew your Qantas Club membership at the current renewal rates; if you do not renew within the allowed time, then it will be classed as a new membership; seems perfectly normal to me

If you have Gold AFF membership , then you can reduce that by $70 through the corporate membership

or you could view it as a carrot (no joining fee) to renew within the period of grace that Qantas has extended.

In the past it has also been cheaper on an annual basis to renew for multiple years compared to the 12 month renewal.

Take out AFF gold membership and get a corporate rate, as mentioned. Or are you eligible under another corporate scheme.

Chech out if your work has corporate rates.
I just paid $400 for 2 years. And that's expensive. I've heard of people paying around $150 Corp Rates.

I was wondering when you become a gold member of AFF, how do you apply for you qantas Club Membership

You can access a section of the forum with details on how to get the corp rate when your account has been successfully upgraded. Quite easy, I only did it a month ago and apart from some issues with the pen I used, it's all come through.

Welcome to AFF!

Go to this link/thread, and follow the instructions there...

If you're not Gold at the moment and can't see the link (I can't recall if that's the case), then basically it involves downloading and filling in a form, mailing it and a cheque off, and advising admin via PM

More details are in this thread, which is accessible to all, but you need to be GOLD to get the good rate.

It involves downloading and filling in a form, mailing it and a cheque or your credit card number off to Admin, and advising admin via PM. Admin, then adds the corp number and sends it all off to QF

My corporate membership was expiring at the end of March (I left my employer last September after a million years) but from the handy hints I got here I picked up a new corporate membership through CSIRO alumni which I just happened to be a member of. Cost me $210 for the year (didn't have to pay the joining fee as my membership hand't lapsed yet) - could have got two years for $360 ($180 per year) but decided on the one year for cash flow and tax reasons.
All I need now is to fly QF a bit more! The trip to the US with the family later in the year will pay for it alone! I can still check in for international flights on a separate queue (QC) to the Y people can't I?

Yes, indeed you can.

And if the rules say you can't, well I certainly have used the biz check in at FRA

When we reached Gold status our paid membership was frozen for reuse if we dropped back to Silver. This should give at least a years free membership to claw back to Gold status. What I dislike is the big jump required to get to Platinum. I acquire over 1000 status credits in some years but never enough to get to or keep Platinum.

That's useful to know. I don't think I'll be getting to SG for a while, but I'd hate to get there, having paid for the QP, have my QP then run out and as I was dropped back to PS have to pay the rejoining fee.

At least you'll be getting to LTG pretty soon then, there's some comfort in that.

I still have about 3 months of QP membership which was "Suspended" in 1996 due to achieving OG status.

With the current QFF program I suspect it will remain "suspended" due to my achievement of LTSG late last year ...

I similarly have about 18 months of my Qantas Club membership suspended awaiting the expiration of my Lifetime Gold status

Seems a bit of a waste, but by then you'll be beyond caring!
