I know this has been done to death but I will try any way.

We are heading off to Europe on 7 June 08 on award tickets. As you can imagine we are flying all over the world via this country via that country. Not complaining although with two young kids would love some Qantas Club passes to break the monotony of our endless airport roulettes.

If anyone can help will show appreciation.

There will be limited places that you could use such "complementary invitations". They can only be used at Qantas Club lounges, so not going to help much across most of Europe.

You may be better off purchasing a Qantas Club membership, which will permit access to Qantas Club and BA lounges when flying with those airlines (also AA, but not going to help in Europe). With a Qantas Club membership, you can take a guest into the lounge (your spouse) and in my experience your young children will be able to join you as well.

Also please note that soliciting for such things is not permitted on this site. But asking advice on how lounge access might be obtained is ok.

Yes, thanks NM for allowing the post.

We are spending some serious time in Singapore, Sydney, Osaka, Helsinki and London airports so am assuming the passes would come in handy. Please would appreciate some advice if Qantas has or shares lounges in these airports. The children are 5 and 7 so I assume the gate keepers would require a pass for them too.

What's peoples' experience with the kids. I understand thet under 3 yo is no issue but older is dicey. I could dress the 5 yo in a jumpsuit but would have one grumpy child!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks again

I've only got one kid and I've never had a problem getting her into the club with me and my partner. But then we are normally travelling in off peak times so the club isn't too busy. if you can membership you can only try. I was in ADL last year and they let my mate, his wife and their 3 yo into the club no worries at all. having said that we were the only ones in the club!

I have not had a problem with getting my wife and 2 daughters (14 and 10) into the lounge. I am WP, so domestic QPs I get 2 guests anyway, but have also managed to get them all in to the MEL FLounge and the LAX TBIT Interim J Lounge (both times when flying Y).

My wife and I are both QC members (via spouse membership) we have gained access in BNE SYD ( dom & int.) AKL and Manila with 3 kids (18 16 & 4) between us - so 1.5 guests each! but a friend recently accessed witha bit of a plea - himself wife 2 toddlers on the 1 QC card. QC Manila is dedicated lounge but tiny.

Maybe this is for "playground" but my record no. of guests in the old 10 passes a year days.. was 17 at BNE dom, on a sunday.

This may only help for Osaka and if you have a Diners Club card but then Diners is a heck of a lot cheaper to join than QC!

Diners Club have lounges in many airports. Osaka is the only one on your list. Access is free to card holders and about A$12 each for guests. Last time I used a DC lounge it was unmanned and access was by swiping your card - so I had the whole family in there for nil!

That is handy to know I wil certainly log that in and visit the DC lounge for hell of it.

What the heck, I was able to get the corporate discount through work so I have joined.

There are many advantages that are available by reading the Qantas site. Can people tell some of the unwritten advantages of Cub membership.

Also is there a lounge that people have somehow got into in Rome Fumicino.

Thanks

Good choice for such a trip

There is a BA Executive Club Lounge at FCO. So providing you are departing on a BA flight, you should have access to that lounge.

Not sure they are unwritten...

1/ Note that your membership is tax deductable..so cost just went down for you if you did mot know.

2/ That your benefits are not just in the lounge. If you are flying economy you now get to use the Business Class Check in...which is a huge time and hassle saver. Given the queues at soe airports this can be very VERY nice...and more so when travelling with young kids.

3/ Lounge benefits...aprt from food, drink, reaxing space etc...one that I often take advantage of on International trips is using the shower...and not just in transit as for example I might go straight from the office to the airport and have shower to freshen up before along flight = a more enjoable flight.

4/That once one of you is a QC Member..that the spouse can join at a discounted spouse rate.

Now if only you are a QC Member.......my experience has been that on international flights that the Club Dragons will not always let a wife and kids in with only one QC Member.. I think in part it depens on how busy the lounge is....or how grumpy the Dragon is.

However I have always since my wife and I both becoame QC embers never hada problem geting in all 3 kids.

One reward redemption though was on Code Share from Noumea and yout you had to ensure that you had all names on a list to get into the Air Calidin Lounge. (I did not know this but while transiting in Brisbane the Qantas Dragon at the lounge in Brisbane advised me of this and put me on). If you were not on the list you did not get in with just your QC card.

Be prepared though for not getting ANY guests in. Recent experience in London when ONLY the member could get in as it was so busy due to delays etc.

QF Rules state:

10. Access to lounges
10.5 Entry of Members' guests will be subject to space availability

bigmal, I guess when you got in, it was REALLY busy ?
Never seen that before where they don't let the first traveling member in.
That would have been disappointing.

As people have said some lounges and days are good others not so.
I was rebooked in LHR on a LH flight (instead of BA) from the other terminal 1 or 2 (not the one with BA lounges) and the ladies at the Iberia or LAN (can't remember) let me in even though i was not strictly on a OW flight. Can't get much better than that.

Yes thanks for the responses guys. It has been some time since we got back. Here's some updates.

The best decision we made was to become a member of Qantas Club. My wife and kids adored me. We were fortunate in that Sydney, Singapore, Beijing, London and Rome let the whole family in on the one card. Rome was dodgy as the BA staff would only let two of us in on the one membership until my daughter broke down sobbing.

I will be renewing this year as we are travelling to Rome via Sydney London Shanghai. I am doubtfull of getting the kids in agaian as they are that bit older. But I'll try any way. Anyone doing Singapore, one membership gets as many people as you want in, they are very casual indeed.

All in all great experience.

Thanks for the update, as I'm about to do the same thing and read this with interest.

cheers

I have always managed to get my wife and both kids (currently 12 and 15) in as guests, even into busy Admirals Club lounges (AA) in the states.

If you're up for a long stop and get refused family entry, splurge and take them into a paid entry lounge. Still cheaper than an overnight hotel stay !!

I believe it is the policy for Qantas to allow children into the club up to the age of 16. For BA the results are mixed - EDI and LGW allow children up to 12, but LHR thinks they should be summarily executed for daring to ask "Please sir - can I have some more?" As has been noted, the BA dragons at LHR like to even veto the one guest rule if they can get away with it.

website says 3 and under, although i have never had a problem with my 5 year old. I don't think they really worry too much about children.
