Am I missing something, are there advantages to having this tag on your luggage?.

There is an Ebay auction for a Qantas Club Platinum Frequent flyer Baggage tag, which has 22 bids and is up to $46 with 5 days to go.

Sorry I can't seem to insert the link.

mmmmm Item Location Pilbara, might explain a few things hehe.......

I can see how they might become a collectors item, given its not exactly cheap to obtain one through normal means, however they have no value as they can be more or less requested at any time by anybody legitimately eligible.

Fairly lame if somebody hopes it might bring them any recognition.

Wow - he's actually sold 4 of them, with the cheapest being $26, and he's got another 2 going now!

I must be in the wrong business. I may as well sell the 2 unused Platinum tags in my possession and then ask Qantas for some more Platinum tags.

I never ceases to amaze me what some people will do for money. Greed reigns supreme....

JohnK,

We could go into business with this :!:

Sure you take care of eBay and Paypal and I will procure the prestigious luggage tags from round the world.

I could turn into a stalker and prey on luggage belts and snip off important luggage tags if they have been on the carousel for too long. ;) Or I can see if I can get "genuine" copies made in Thailand. :p

I believe he has sold a lot more than 4, but people haven't provided feedback. Perhaps they bail out once they realise what they are getting! I've noticed him for a while (and made a post elsewhere here about the sales - although can't find it now).

Darn, and I have given mine away in the past to whoever wanted them...

Mr!

where do they get these tags from in what appears to be bulk?? seem to get them easy enough??

Who knows. They may have contacts where they are printed. They may know someone who works at Qantas and has access to luggage tags.

Could also be baggage handlers. A lot of tags do get cut-off on the luggage belts but some may get cut-off "accidentally". Nothing would surprise me really.

This is a pretty funny auction.

Hopefully the winner won't be disappointed when they can't get into the J or F lounges.

perhaps some ego may be overtaking people when they are waiting in line to board and all in the line are looking at their tag.................. perhaps they dont realsie that if it was real, they would have boarded the plane before the queue!!

the tags......... they make a mockery of the whole ego driven flyer programmes.....who has what and what colour is it??
if they where so important, the things would not be so easy to get and QF would supply some form of stainless cable which cannot be tampered with...

Or they could personalise it with a name like AAnother AAirline does ;)

Would be a nice touch, but considering QF just keeps on 'enhancing' the FF program, I can't see it happening anytime soon.

I stopped using status luggage tags when the Silver or Gold tag was cut off clean from my bag about 3-4 years ago.

I don't feel the need to use special luggage tags on my luggage as I do not want the luggage to get any unnecessary attention drawn to it from people interested in collector's items. I guess the Business/First Class luggage tags put on at check-in is more than enough attention already....

JohnK, its like the necessary evil of a TSA lock on your bag....... the good guy doesn't batter an eyelid, the bad guy says.......hey lets cut it to see whats in it.....
the tag........... very well put, the 1st/business luggage tag at check in gives the bag boys enough warning of a bag coming thru!!

Ah just another example of the craziness of Ebayers.. $46!!! Seems people have gone crazy for an overload of chocolate at Easter??

Imagine what will happen when they figure out real value of an AFF member tag, there may be a goldmine there

I already thought you did that.

Or I can see if I can get "genuine" copies made in Thailand. :p
Another excellent idea.

We could always sell a few AFF tags as well.
