Hello all, long time no post (apologies)*

Anyway I'm flying SYD - AKL on QF43 on 30 March 2012 and I have a query.

My Qantas Club corporate membership expired in Jan when I resigned from my job and I am looking at a way to either

A) get a day pass for this flight or
B) get Qantas Club membership on the cheap.

Any suggestions?

Hi HodgoBerro,

You could look at the AFF Corporate package.

It requires Gold AFF membership ($50pa) and then you have access to the discount.

See:http://www.australianfrequentflyer....-find-qantas-club-corp-9333-4.html#post410827 (post #158) for the current rates.

After 10 months they will probably require another joining fee though.

Actually, they may not.

I'm in a similar situation with this, and the Corporate Qantas Club team has some discretion in this area (confirmed this having spoken to them a few moments ago). This is at the operator's discretion, but it is a well enough know process and procedure for them to openly discuss this with a customer by phone.

Your length of membership in Qantas Club (as in from when you first joined) may also influence their decision to permit this or not.

The advice I have been given is they have the ability to do is backdate the membership year to when it expired to avoid a re-joining fee. In your case, if you were to rejoin today your new membership would be backdated to February, which would only give you 3 months remaining on the membership year through to EOM January 2012 (assuming paying for 1yr).

If you are going to rejoin and have your membership backdated, it is easiest to do this by calling the service centre. And if you previously joined under a corporate scheme, renewing by telephone is preferred as they will have to remove the old scheme details from your profile first before processing a membership renewal.

And as straitman noted, you are welcome to join the AFF scheme upon subscribing to the Gold membership.

Just quickly, is it worthwhile going for QP at all? Yes being without lounge access is never as much fun as being with, but if you only have a couple of flights coming up is QP access really worth it?
I could think of much better use of a couple of hundred $$$ than 2 lounge visits.
Of course if you have loads of flights booked ignore this post...

Applying for the HSBC or Qantas Amex (Gold?) credit cards that offer a couple of lounge passes could be the way to go, especially as you have plenty of time. Sometimes they pop up on ebay, but these transactions can be dodgy as they are only supposed to be used by the person they were issued to.

I agree. The QP used to offer reasonable food and a quiet place to relax and enjoy a drink, but times change. If only for a couple of flights there are ample restaurants/bars in the terminal to enjoy and people watch.

The other thing is if it is only for a couple of flights per year put the money saved on membership into a business ticket.

Agree 100%... Esp as the J ticket would get QP \ J Lounge access anyway...

Exactly, rather than renew QP for occasional flights I am tempted to upgrade from a flexible Y fare for 5000 points if I know I will be tired or need to get some work done, and just use the J lounge.
