I have to renew my qantas club membership but someone told me they have just joined the priority club. Can anyone give me advise on the better one to join. I always fly qantas (mainly for the points), but can still use the priority clubs (i think) if i join that one
any help would be appreciated

If you mean Priority Pass, this will not give you access to the Qantas club lounges. It will give access to The Lounge at Virgin Blue. If you fly Qantas, there seems little benefit (and much cost) in joining Priority Pass.

This could be the biggest news of the year.

If the Qantas lounges weren't crowded already they will definitely be overflowing if Qantas allowed Priority Pass members into the lounges. Now we know the real reason why Qantas removed anytime access for Platinums. ;)

I would be extremely surprised if Qantas have joined/will join the Priority Pass network.

kbee60,

A little more information regarding your traveling patterns would make answering your question a little easier.

Do you mainly travel domestically or internationally and what areas do you travel?

I usually travel Adel - Melb 5-6 times a year for the footy and 1-2 international trips (mainly to the US) per year

Seems reasonable as they would get paid every time somebody used priority pass to enter the lounge.
That would also be debatable given the costs associated with joining Qantas Club and Priority Pass.

Would anyone in their right minds join Qantas Club and pay $700 a year when they can get free membership to Priority pass with some Platinum credit cards or pay ~$299 a year to join?

Kym,
This will also depend upon airlines flown.

IF you fly mainly QF then the Priority Pass is almost useless to you as it does not get you into the Qantas Clubs though it will get you into some International lounges. (you should look at their web site for details) In this case QP membership would be best)

If you fly Virgin Blue domestically then the Priority Pass membership will get you into 'The Lounge' and would be your best option.

Good luck.

The same question could be asked in regards to why people will pay more money (sometimes a lot more) to fly QANTAS internationally when there are cheaper and better alternatives.

Going off topic here but if one does their homework Qantas flights can be as cheap as LCC's. I travel to Thailand 3-4 times a year and purchase "cheap" Qantas airfares.

Better? Qantas is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but there is not much better out there in economy and cheaper. SQ? TG? CX? MH? I know which I would rather fly.

As you state you always fly Qantas, then it would be appropriate to join The Qantas Club.

Not that I think it’s worth it, but if you let your QP lapse and bought a new membership in the period listed here, you’d also earn yourself 25,000 points (not sure if it’s been mentioned in a thread yet).

Presumably then you would have to pay another joining fee. The 25k points would need to be balanced against that, so would depend on how you value those points (I haven't done the maths).

Another point to consider if that Qantas Club allows you and a guest access. Priority Pass only provides access to you, guests can join you, but a per visit fee must be paid. So if you regularly travel with someone, particularly on an os trip, this additional fee can add up.
