I am trying to get myself and Mrs Batesy to FRA for Christmas. We have 600k points and want to fly in J or even F.

I can see our options in the QFF award booking engine and are flexible with dates.

I have access to expertflyer and was surprised to see a codeshare with LH to Jakarta and then back to OZ on QF from there?????

QFF shows me options with QF, CX and BA. I am assuming the that JAL is not shown on the QFF page that if I ring the service centre they may provide me other options with JAL. Just seeking any advice or ideas. I have also looked at a oneworld award travelling in the one direction. All ideas or commentary welcome.

Hello all, first time I have seen a post with no responses at all. Any commentary welcome, PLEASE!!

Your best bet is to ring QF who will at least give you an idea of availability and options not available online (which may include CX options not visible), then if you are unsure post your possible routings here for comment. Its hard to give advice when availability may not be there for what we are suggesting. There is also the Etihad codeshare option for instance.

The Qantas Frequent Flyer terms and conditions (available on the Qantas web site) explains the limited situations where codeshares are available for FF redemptions. Generally, when a codeshare can be used, only the QF codeshare can be. It depends on the terms of the codeshare agreement between Qantas and the operating airline. One example where the QF codeshare must be used is with LAN flights trans-Pacific. But in most cases, you must find redemption availability using the flight code of the operating airline, which of course must be a QFF redemption partner.

JAL award availability can be found by opening a JAL Mileage Bank account (free).

Thanks for the responses NM and Markis10, the JAL info was particularly helpful.
Cheers
Batesy.

Please let us know what QF have told you and what your experience is.

All the non-QF metal redemption I have seeen - BA, AA, CX, MALEV - has been on that carrier's flight number - ie no codeshare. The ticket however, is always issued on Qantas ticket stock so starts with 081.

I think you'll see JAL flights if you do a multi city booking. But I also recall reading in all the discussion about JAL going broke that they were/have stop flights to FRA. But let us know what you find out.

Hope not, QF use the JAL lounge at FRA, and the routes dropeed are Tokyo to Brisbane, Amsterdam, Milan, Rome, Sao Paolo, Denpasar (Bali), and Kona .

Really? It must have changed as they sent us to the CX lounge 3 years ago.
On the route closures - my memory is hopeless :(

Since you wish to fly J, my advice would be to fly on CX. With KVS/Expert Flyer you should be able to see all the J availabilty to FRA (and also AMS and CDG ) on CX. I'm not sure if the QFF site always is reliable for CX availability. It's worth flying in the comfort of the Cathay coffins if you have not tried them yet. Probably good connection in HKG as well.
