At Long Haul, I understand that Qantas have "BFA"s - Business/First Attendants - who are trained to work exclusively in the premium cabins. I recently heard from an aquaintance who is fairly new at QF saying that the most junior positions for LH CC are L4A/R4A - and that these positions work in Business/First. Only later on did I think this was strange as I thought only the more experienced BFAs did the premium class service.

Do Cabin Crew not NEED to be BFAs to work in F/J at Qantas?

No you don't have to be a BFA to work up the front, nor does being a BFA prevent you from working down the back either!

In saying that Qantas will arrange to have the correct number of BFA crew for each flight and an economy crew member can't take it from a BFA when positions are being done. BFA crew get first selection of first/business positions, but if the numbers are not balanced, say due to last minute sickness and another BFA can't be called or whatever, then yes an economy crew member will have to work in a premium cabin (and we are all trained in business during initial training for that very reason)

I think that what your friend may have meant is that when work positions are done, it is the last position to be selected (Although first class I wouldn't say so - but the R4A you referred to which works in Business) thus the most junior person will get it.

When an economy crew member is working in business they usually get R4A as it is requires them only to do cabin work, so is easiest for them.
