Looks like I'm (finally :D) moving back to Sydney for good. The only thing is... I have nearly 4 years worth of "memories" (ie: stuff thatI don't want to throw out) to move back with me.

Planning ahead... I have four trip to Sydney booked before I have to suck it up and drive the final time. As a WP, I get 2 x 32kg bags each flight. I've been looking online, and I can purchase an additional 2 bags at $20 each if I buy before getting to the airport.

I just want to check that this is additional to my standard allowance. So basically, if i buy 2 extra bags for $40, I want to make sure I can actually check 4 bags in total (this has been a problem with DJ where your status allowances aren't additional).

I believe then that my 2 additional bags should also be 32kg and not 23kg as a result of being WP. So all up I think I'll get 4 x 32kg bags (128kg). I will have a sector on QantasLink but I believe they'll just carry the bags later if there isn't enough room (not too concerned about this).

All going to plan... I'll fly most of the stuff down and avoid the need to hire a truck.

I could be wrong. But my understanding of purchasing extra bags is that it is just the "right" to check in an extra bag? But it doesn't give you any extra kgs. and so you would be using some of your WP 64kgs? Just means that you can spread that 64 over say 3 or 4 or more bags... I'm not entirely sure on this so hopefully someone can confirm if my interpretation is correct? Hopefully that makes sense?

You are not purchasing extra 'weight' you are getting extra bags. The only way to get the total 128kg allowance is if each of the 4 bags are 32kgs each. But i'm sure you know that already.
For excess, this is additional to the WP allowance, and sice your WP the extra bags do get the 32kg allowance. Every other bag after the 2 pre-purchased is an extra $60 for each other pce (up to 32kgs)
Better than the $10kg old system!

Also make sure if you have more than one sector it is all on one booking.

Thanks, that's what I was looking for. I have some large Samsonite hardshells that will hit 32kg quite easily, so four of them will get my maximum value

You're right, a lot better than $10 per kg! I'd almost say it's very generous now.

If you only have a few bags you might consider using a courier. Phone around and get some quotes b/c their prices vary from company to company.
