My mum has an award booking with Qantas from BNE to LAX return. It was booked last week and they gave her a confirmation and a booking reference number.

Today she was sent an email with a new itinerary. They moved her from the BNE to LAX flight and now have her on a flight going from BNE-SYD-LAX. It is still for the same day.

I'm wondering if there is anything we can do about this or are we just stuck with it since she used ff points to make the booking? It has messed up her flights in the USA now and she is going to have to make changes to her US tickets, because the new itinerary has her arriving in LA too late to catch her flight.

I know there will be a fee involved with the airline in the states to change the flight, what would be the chance of Qantas having to pay for this? (I know a joke!)

Please, any advice would be helpful in this situation. I have a feeling we are going to have to just deal with this, but it seems wrong to change a passengers flights without their knowledge, even if they are a just an award booking.

first check what other options they have available for sale. Have they cancelled the original flight? What other flights are available, going via asia even?

Then ring qantas mentioned the missed connection and ask what other alternatives they can offer. Politely make the point that you need to get they as per the time of the original booking. How flexible is your mum? Can she go earlier? If the original flight isn't cancelled ask to be put back onto it.

I don't see a problem with them making the change but in doing so they need to have some flexibility.

I think BNE-LAX has been getting one of its weekly flights canned for a few dates in December/January. (ie it seems to be back to 6 weekly some weeks).

I presume this is one of the days that has been cancelled.

If the USA flights are on a different booking, then she was always at risk of missing the connection without any protection. any time you have two separate bookings with connections you are carrying the risk of delays, cancellations, schedule changes etc.

Now it sounds like she has been moved to the QF11 flight to LAX, arriving at 9:50am. She could ask to be accommodated on the QF107 flight that is scheduled to arrive into LAX at 6:25am, which is in fact 35 mins earlier than the QF15 from BNE. But that will require a much earlier departure BNE (such as 7am).

Hi seza, a belated welcome to AFF :D ...

Can you please advise the date of this booking?
