Qantas FF overseas membership: limitations?

Hi,
if I join Qantas frequent flyer as an overeas member, there is no charge to join.

My question: are there any limitations or disadvantages to being an overseas member?

Minor question, how do the blighters get away with charging membership to a frequent flyer scheme? Thieves!

Only the need to complete 4 Qantas flights to maintain status.

No physical membership card or similar collateral unless you reach silver membership or pay a fee to get it sent.
Small chance of being audited and being cancelled/asked to pay when you move your membership back to Oz. (I'm not aware of any people who have had this happen)

Qantas thinks Australians are suckers who will pay top dollar for everything. We let them, so they have no incentive to change.
