Hi All,

A random question for you fellow WPs out there.

This past weekend we decided to do a family junket to Fiji for a few days in October.

There'll be 7 of us, all flying Business - FJ metal but on the QF codeshare. Including myself, there are two WPs in our group. No kids in the group.

Now, we can all get into the J lounge no problems because we're flying J and if we had 3 less people we'd get into the F lounge.

So my question is, does anybody have any experience with how strict the Qantas First lounge is with extra guests? (1.5 per WP).

I know my mileage may vary, but I'm hoping that by all flying business may get us in if they're in a good mood, or should I just not bother asking?

In any case, I'll be getting to Sydney early to meet my mum's flight down from Brisbane so I'll go ask nicely before the rest of the group arrive.

My mum's excited. It's her first time flying J (and I've booked her BNE-SYD and SYD-BNE segments in J as well) and her first international flight. Getting her into the F lounge will complete that experience (she's never been into an airline lounge either) so worse case scenario we'll go in and join the rest of the group in the J lounge closer to departure :)

On a related note, BNE-SYD-NAN return in J was amazing at $1,330. It was actually cheaper than booking SYD-NAN return ($1,349). If I needed the SCs (I don't), I'd have flown up to BNE first :)

I'd say this is your best bet - it wouldn't hurt to ask if you can bring everyone in, but I would fully expect the answer to be "no, sorry". QF FLounge guest rules tend to be policed fairly strictly.

I have personally witnessed, on at least two occasions, people trying to get more than 1 guest into the SYD F lounge and being politely but firmly knocked back; as notzac says, they are pretty strict with the rules.

Completely depends on who you get speak to on the day.
Give it a go!

Yep, that might be my approach.

I'll politely ask about the possibility, but with just my mum and I there so they don't feel ambushed.

If yes, great. If not, then the others can wait in the J lounge :)

Thanks all.

I would suggest you ring them ahead of time and ask the question. They may be more accepting with prior notice, especially if it is during a quiet time of day. (if there is one)

You could also ring and book a private meeting room. We did this successfully to take our kids there with us (2 WP +4 NB)

I agree. The number is floating around here somewhere, or if you ring Qantas directly they should be able to help.

Having an entry in the diary at the entry will definitely help. I wouldn't take a chance if I had excess guests.

If the excess guests were children, my advice would probably be slightly different, but with adults - 7 in total, I doubt you'd be all allowed in without prior notice.

It is not going to be easy with only 2 Platinums and 5 guests but as everyone else suggests it cannot hurt to ask.

If you end up getting the person I came across a couple of years ago then the answer would definitely be a no.

I was guesting someone from SYD-MEL on QF73 who was on the same flight as me but their boarding pass was green in colour at the top ((issued by SQ in SIN) and she did not want to let the guest inside. I kept telling her he is on the same flight and eventually she printed a Qantas boarding pass and then let him enter.

Thanks again all.

I will give them a call a couple of days before the flight, but will be ready for 'no' :)

I have been admitted with my wife and 2 daughters (15 and 11) as guests in MEL a couple of times and Sydney once, flying Y on QF and J on JQ. I have never been knocked back, so its worth a try.

I always get wife and daughter in. Daughter is 14 but looks like 18, so I'm always wary of getting knocked back, but never have. I guess having a smaller child would increase your chances. However recently having passed through the lounge in Syd 7 times in the past 2 months, I'm getting to know the first line of defence pretty well and they are the guys who get you through the door.

The one time I did get knocked back was on a FJ flight. Just me and mrs sneaking off for a dirty weekend and they didn't even let me in because it was ticketed as a FJ flight.

A nasty letter to Qantas and i got an apology and was treated like royalty a few weeks later when I passed through the lounge again.

On this note, unfortunately the answer was no.

I was informed that if the additional guests were under 18 then they would be admitted.

I enjoyed the F lounge with my mum. The other WP elected to wait in the J lounge with the rest.

Why the nasty letter. They were applying the rules. Why should you be let in on a FJ flight, they are not one world the last time i checked which was 1 min ago. I think that is quite rude IMO. Why do you think you are ewntitled in on that occasion? And why th enasty letter?

Thanks for the update. It's useful to know that QF regard under 18's differently. I presume this is because they cannot join QP

Apparently QF knows something we don't. Maybe Snowmoo was ticketed on the QF codeshare which, I think, entitles one to entry. Again, though, QF lounge access rules are so damn complicated.

F lounge in Syd always stick by the rules from my experience. Polite but firm, no, then they suggest trying the J lounge. Never got more than my WP allocated guests in.

As they should. The F lounge is a sanctuary ;)
