There seems too be a number of flights from Cairns, that are "operated by Australian Airlines for QANTAS"
How does that work with Australian Airlines no longer flying these days?
Would QANTAS still use the same 767's (configured all econ, same paint scheme) or would they use their own 767's?

thanks for reading (and hopefully replying  lol)

AO is still flying. The crews and planes are "wet leased" to QF. They have been repainted and reconfigured to QF International 767 but you will get the same service and benefits as if flying on QF, just that the operating costs for these flights are lower than QF mainline. It has been written that AO crews are better than QF crews but I never flew with them so I would not be able to confirm that.

Happy to give positive feedback on AO.

I mostly fly Singapore / Thai - basically because I hate the attitude of Qantas cabin crew.

My last flight on a 'Qantas' flight was about a year ago - Sydney to coughet on Autralian (shortly before they were killed). Based on previous experience I was dreading a 'second division Qantas'.

The crew out and back were first rate - friendly, relaxed, attentive - far better than anything I have experienced on a regular Qantas flight. I admit the flights were pretty empty ( easy on the crew ) - nonetheless the Cairns based crew seemed more focused on doing the job / serving passengers - I'd happily fly with an AO crew ahead of the regular Qantas mob.

Whilst I haven't flown them, last year my parents went on a J class trip using Qantas to Tokyo and onwards to Canada.

On the outward leg with QF they said it was fantastic. Great service and the works. During there time in Canada was when the transition happened fro QF to AO, so they flew back to CNS with an AO serviced flight.

They were incredibly disappointed as it was nothing like the flight out. Staff attitudes, service, the works. It was a gift to themselves as a 50th wedding anniversary present, and it, in there words, took the gloss off a fantstatic trip.

The point has been made elsewhere in the forum about consistency of service with Qantas - I have flown about a dozen International flights over the years on Qantas 'regular' flights - the service has been poor to average. I took one return flight with Australian and received great service.

It really seems to be hit and miss - I guess at the end of the day it comes down to the attitude of the cabin crew - if they are flying an unpopular schedule, or have had a lousy stopover and insufficient rest it doesn't really matter what logo is painted on the tail.
