Qantas flights cancelled after 7.30 pm Tuesday 20/2/24 from Sydney airport.

Half way flying to Sydney got an sms saying my return 10.00 pm flight had been cancelled - don't know why. On arrival after finally finding someone to talk to was told they had put me on a 8.00 pm flight back to Melbourne - the only problem was that was when i was at a forum in town as a speaker. Then told no flights available that night as all Qantas flights after 7.30 had been cancelled. Again, don't know why - did this happen to anyone else? PS on the flight to Sydney told not enough food for everyone and the plane left 30 minutes late.

The 8pm flight you were moved to would have been the last Qantas flight to Melbourne for the evening. They had no flights scheduled on SYD-MEL between the 8pm and 10pm services. There wouldn't have been any later flights for them to move you to - if seats were available.

As to why they said everything had been cancelled after 7:30 ... weird.

This post may give you some hints. A guess is that the midday storm in Sydney caused the QF fleet to be out of sync and they deemed it better to start cancelling the late flights to station the aircraft & crew where they ought to be for the next morning.
