Yes - there are lots of threads about award tickets to Europe. They contain such nuggets of information like :-
  • If you have no status then good luck to you
  • If you want multiple tickets then good luck to you
  • If you want to fly at peak times then good luck to you
  • If you want to take advantage of the "Explorer" awards then good luck to you
  • If your schedule is inflexible then good luck to you
But if you provide some specifics then the advice will be more useful, I suspect.

Welcome to AFF Notara.

I don't think you'll find a specific thread along those lines, as such.

If you have a particular question(s) I'm sure someone will have an answer for you.

As others have mentioned, what specifically are you after, there are so many combinations and tricks that may come into play?

For instance:

1. Cathay Flights - availability may be different if you ring the service centre but there is a fee for this
2. JASAs - often you can get good priced JASA options but you need to do the work, it may be a case of booking half the trip with one award type then another or even a mix of anyseat/classic and paid flights.
3. Why paid flights - have a look at fares to LHR for instance when purchased off the QF Singapore or Hong Kong site, but watch Thailand as they require a sighting of your credit card in Bangkok before the ticket is issued!

Can you buy tickets easily via the intl qf sites with Australian cc??

I have done so from the SIN site. Not sure about the others but subject to correction, it should be possible. Note the requirement to present the credit card at the qantas office for purchases in Thailand.

I've been planning to buy a return ticket in LA or London for say January ever since I lived abroad but have never done it. Would have saved a packet.

Welcome to AFF Notara!

There are a number of threads that discuss award bookings but nothing specific. I guess you will need to do a search for the threads and if the information you need is not there then post the question.

Also if you are going to Europe in say economy then this will cost at lest 128,00 QFF points whereas a Oneworld award costs 143,500 QFF points but you can travel up to 35,000 miles with 5 stopovers and 16 sectors.

I buy tickets QF NZ site using Australian C/C for flights home from Auckland to Brisbane. Much cheaper than the return flight ticket price from Brisbane. Sometimes $ 490 J Class!! Booked and had to cancel ticket from QF Bangkok site. QF South East Asia sites need to show ID within 2 days of booking due to high risk of cc fraud.
