I have two QF Gift Vouches worth a total of $300 (From a hold up in Sydney). I was wondering how do I book flights? I cannot see a spot for the voucher code on the QF site.

Oliver - as far as I know (and already willing to be corrected) - there is no facility online to redeem the voucher. However, if you make your booking through a TA and give them the vouvher, they have added faciltiies to facilitate such a payment. This happened to us one time - just gave them the voucher and paid the difference.

Well here is what I want to do.

I want to go up to Brisbane for the day (Spotting Trip)

The flights return are about $280. Can I just call Qantas and they will redeem and book it at the same time?

If you don't want to use a TA, then suggest you ring Qantas - and ensure they don't charge you extra for using the phone service.

Yes. They will then ask you to send in the vouchers for verification.

I've redeemed before by using both Qantas Travel (in Perth CBD) and over the phone, neither time have I been charged a booking fee for doing so.

The one time I uses a voucher the instructions and conditions specifically stated that a fee would not be charged. The slight inconvenience was I had to preset the voucher immediately when using for the first time. Including by phone so it was easier/same hassle to use qantas travel in adelaide cbd to do the booking as I had to present the voucher to them either way.
They also would just accept the voucher number for the first booking. I believe that when the remaining value was used later the booking could happen over the phone.

Old thread I know ...
I've got a $100 voucher courtesy of QF and decided to use it to book a flight.
Called them up, booked the flight, and had to pay $7.70 for the credit card surcharge and snail mail the voucher over to Sydney.
No other way since the Qantas Travel Centre here in Perth has closed a few months back.

Isn't this illegal -- them giving you a $100 voucher but to use it you have to pay $7.70 + $0.60?

I think you could avoid the charge by using BPAY?

I was informed that BPay isn't available over the phone.

I did ask if there was any way to avoid the $7.70+$0.60 surcharge and she said the only way was to a Qantas travel agent. (and pay another $7.70 + $0.60 for a flight to another city for that!)

I wouldnt think it is illegal - they gave you $100 which was essentially $92 of real value. It is not a great system but you did get something for nothing - noting I know this was compensation.

I agree that it is not a great system but it was compensation that I deserved! Anyhow I won't waste my time and theirs pursuing this -- it is insignificant in the scheme of what else is going on with them. Just wanted to know what other FFs think, especially now that they are closing QF travel shops around the country so everyone would have to ring in and pay up.

I was just trying to remember what happened with me. Initially as I was buying a ticket that was less than the voucher value I didnt incur any extra charges - then when that trip was cancelled and I booked a trip in excess of the voucher I didnt even consider the credit card fees. The posting in of the voucher was the biggest annoyance.

Agreed! It's more of an annoyance than anything else, especially when you have run out of 60c stamps!
Also, they won't issue my itinerary until they received and processed my voucher! I would have thought giving them the voucher number would suffice.

Wow, wow, wow! 60c now for a local letter!?

I'm remembering back to my last voucher redemptions. I had 9 vouchers totaling $406 that I wanted to redeem for hotel accomodation. I went into a Qantas Travel Centre and they said that I had to make the booking over the phone. Called the phone line and eventually made the booking and they just noted the voucher numbers down. I didn't have to post anything to anywhere. I can't remember exactly what fee I had to pay, but there was some fee deducted from the $406.

I still have another $600 in vouchers saved up, which this thread has reminded me to use before they expire.

Interesting. I used the QTC for my first one that I had with no issues. The 2nd time I did do it over the phone and the only 'fees' I incurred was the c/c payment fee for the amount I had to pay on top of the voucher value.
