Hi,

I have just booked on line a flight from Hong Kong to London return in Premium Economy and the automatic seat allocation shows 23F.

I checked the Qantas seat map and it shows 23F as being a business class seat.

Can anyone advise if this is the case on this particular flight or not?

Many thanks for your help.

Hi Sefty,

Many thanks for your help.

Does this mean however that the seat is a business class seat or a normal PE seat?

Also what service would it be? Business service or PE?

Sounds like you will have a business class Skybed seat with Premium Economy service.

Wow - that is fantastic!

That is a very big bonus on such a long trip.

Are you sure of this?

Aircraft and Seat allocations cna change before departure, assume you will get a PE seat, dont expect a J seat until you get on the plane and see what the seating gods finally allocate.

Very true, but pleas note my post #3 of this thread and the post it links to:
... Note that these may drop off to some extent Jul-Oct as Qantas are redefining the cabins on many flights - especially trans-pacific.

e.g. 4 Class Pacific configurations are having their cabins reallocated to give an additional 28 Economy class seats.

See here: http://www.qantas.com.au/infodetail/flying/inTheAir/ourAircraft/744ER-14P66J40W187Y.pdf

  • First Class is still 14 seats in Zone A
  • Business Class is Zone B and Zone F with the 14 SkyBeds in Zone C allocated to Y+
  • Premium Economy is Zone C with 14 SkyBeds and 12 Y+ seats.
  • Economy is Zone D & E including the 28 Y+ seats in zone D.

So instead of having a 14F 66J 40W & 187Y configuration we have a 14F 52J 26W & 215Y.

I know that the departing flight will be on a 747ER so I guess unless Qantas has changed the seats from Business to PE seat # 23F will be a Business class seat.

My fingers are certainly crossed!

If you can pull a seat map up it easy enough to check.

Fire up www.checkmytrip.com and plug in your booking reference (Amadeus PNR) and your surname.

Once 'logged' into C/M/T look to the bottom of the "your flight selection" box for:
[+]view details click to see additional information including price, payment and flight special requests.

Click the "[+]view details" and the window will expand and you may see any seat pre-selection there. If you do see a seat number, click that/those and you may get a seat map.

If you see row 23 as being 2x3x2 (AB/DEF/JK) then you have skybeds.

Hi Serfty,

Great advice - many thanks.

I sis check with check my trip and I have found that the seats are 2 3 2.

Seems likely that the seats are the bed style.

Thanks again for your advice.

I think your lucky day may have come. The way seat numbering usually works is that the front row in economy is row 31.

Depending on the plane type, it looks as though you have scored a window seat in Business.

Do nothing, just be grateful!

It has been ascertained earlier in the thread that OP has scored a Skybed in Y+. i.e. J seat, Y+ service.

The configuration fot QF29/30 is totally different from the transpacific planes.

the 14 F seats are J seats. Upstairs is still J seats. The 28 J seats downstairs are now skybed PE+ service and the 32 PE are now Y seats being allocated to status pax.
