Last week I took QF42 from CGK to SYD. It leaves Jakarta in the evening. They serve you dinner soon after departure, then J class passengers go to bed and are awakened somewhere between Broken Hill and Orange. The night passes quickly. I doubt if a soul in Business Class even bothered with the in-flight entertainment system. I certainly did not. It was a good flight and the service was excellent.
Now I have received a letter from Qantas apologising profusely for the problem with the IFES and as compensation for my hardship enclosing a gift voucher for $200 towards my next QF flight.
I swear, I didn't have a clue that there was anything wrong.
So many of us are so ready to gripe when the least thing goes wrong that I feel it is incumbent upon me to publicise this exceptional largesse.

Cocitus23,

Thanks for the positive feed back. It is really good to hear of some positive feedback when it is due.

It's also good not to be woken up three hours before landing! Then you'd have used the IFE.

The same thing happended to me last year when I flew from HKG to MEL. I watched 2 movies and there was nothing wrong.

I got $300 for failed IFE HKG-SYD a while ago and had not even tried to turn on IFE...

Mind you the reason I didnt try was because I didn't expect it to work...

DAMN!!! All i got from Air Asia was a feigned apology when their IFE was broken!
:evil::evil::evil::evil:

I've rarely used airline's IFE (VA excepted) as I usually have my MP4 player with high res screen with me. It last for about 8 hrs of video playback. Between that and a book, I've yet to find much to compel me to us the IFE on a flight as I've nearly always seen any of the movies that I'd want to watch.

Now I just got to hope I get a little surprise from QF 1 day

I had the reverse happen kinda.

Last Wed Qf 11 from SYD-LAX was delayed 80 mins so the IFE could be fixed.

I'd have preferred my 80 mins back

Ge, GoldCoast Guy, wouldn't you have preferred to have not had 80 minutes of your life stolen AND be given $200 for good measure!!!

I had a $200 (towards flights) recently - PER/MEL entertainment system wasn't working, I didn't know, I was asleep (red eye flight), but even so, I wouldn't have cared...

Thanks again QF

Of course! Although the late arrival meant missing an event I had planned to see (I was cutting it fine anyway)

the in flight power wasn't working. Any chance I'll get some cash back for that? ;-)

Gee, I've lost count the number of times their IFE system hasn't been working and not once have I ever been given any form of compensation.

Guess, those of you who were on those flights were really lucky - hope next time it fails, I'll be just as lucky.

This seems to be standard QF policy with the amount varying depending on your status and class of travel.

I have had several vouchers.

The annoying thing is you need to use QF telephone or retail sales outlet to rendeem the voucher. You then incur a booking fee service charge:-|

I've never had to pay the assisted booking fee when using an MCO or any other QF voucher. Probably something to do with the fact you can't actually use it online so have no other options...
