SYDNEY, 25 February 2010: Qantas today announced it would increase capacity to Japan from July
2010*.

Qantas Chief Executive Officer, Mr Alan Joyce, said the airline would deploy a two-class Boeing 747-
400 aircraft on selected flights between Sydney and Tokyo Narita to meet increased demand and
complement the Qantas Group’s two brand strategy in the Japan market.

“Qantas currently operates a daily service between Sydney and Tokyo using two-class Airbus A330-
300s,” Mr Joyce said.

From 5 July, six of these services will be operated by two-class Boeing 747-400 aircraft and the
remaining one using an A330-200 aircraft.

Qantas has also announced a range of sales fares to support the increased capacity on the route.
Until 16 March Qantas customers can enjoy a return fare from Sydney to Tokyo for AUD$1,128
inclusive of all taxes for travel between 1 June and 18 September 2010**.

I wonder if Qantas will upgrade the 767-300ER on the PER-NRT-PER route to a A330-200.

They will have to do something eventually, as the 767's leave the fleet. A couple of int config 767's have recently departed for their resting place in the US. Could be a few years away though, and who knows, maybe it will just go the a 787 service:shock:

Umm shouldn't that be a nightly service?

Wishful thinking.

I wish QF would updgrade the cabins of the international 767's

Its not wishful thinking, July 5 will see the change from what I hear, same time as LAX-JFK goes A330.

Hmmm ... I'm looking at QF22 in Feb/March next year and for early Feb is showing 744 7 days per week.

FWIW, this is part of a LONE4 and I have QF22 parked in October until the date I need becomes available.

Please let it be true!

Another flight to NRT on those awful 767s is making the competitors and subsequent indirect flights pretty appealing.

I've got til early next Jan for my next NRT trip, however...

FWIW the sale prices in the OP are cheaper than a JQ JetSaver Light return fare on some dates (i.e. for SYD-NRT, some routing via CNS). JQ Star Class is just over double the QF sale fare.

Better late than never eh...

30/36 seats in J is not enough on this route.
Just flew up to TK on Monday night - was waitlisted on the Sun flight for 2 weeks and didn't clear... AFAIK, it's always been difficult to get a (J) seat on some of these flights for some time.

BTW: Unusually, the Mon night flight was chock a block full of Japanese students in Y.
