Hello all, very helpful community you have here that I've seen!

I'll be travelling from Singapore to Perth and then on to Melbourne next week. Both flights are operated by Qantas. First time travelling alone, and I realized I didn't know **** about flying solo!

I'm wondering if I would have any issues with my carry on, as I have a backpack and a 4/4 violin, both of which are within the 45" restrictions. I've read some sites that suggest I request to be near the back of the plane - more chance of having enough space for my violin in the overhead compartment (???). Would I have any trouble bringing my violin along?

Also, would I have to collect my luggage at Perth and check in for the domestic flight again, or is it more likely that Qantas would through-check me? (Of course I'd call Reservations up and ask, just would like to hear your experiences :>)

Lastly, and nothing to do with Qantas this time... how much time would I need to get from T1 to T2 at Perth? I've a 3 hour break between flights, but that's assuming I don't get delayed and such... Thank you!

They may check you through, but you will have to clear immigration, collect your baggage, then clear customs in Perth. Then make your way to the domestic terminal with your luggage.

3 hours should be ample.

I did the SIN-PER-MEL trip with QF a few months ago and it was fairly smooth.

I can't foresee any issues with your carry-on. I went on with a medium-sized piece of luggage and a suit bag and didn't have any problems.

You'll most likely receive boarding passes for both your SIN-PER and PER-MEL legs when you check in at SIN, but as oz_mark said, you'll have to collect your luggage at PER and re-check it at the DOM terminal.

If you have both legs on QF, you'll be able to use their shuttle service to get between terminals. Collect a ticket from the desk in the lobby after you clear customs. The cabin crew will probably mention it a few times on your SIN-PER flight if you forget between now and then :p.

3 hours should be more than enough. When I did it I got lucky, as the previous PER-MEL flight was delayed an hour, so I got to jump on that one instead of waiting. Only spent 45 mins in PER.

Thank you, Oz_mark and Stuartfaz!

It calms me a little now that I've a general idea of what to expect :)
