Sydney and Melbourne International Business Lounges

We have made some exciting changes to the Sydney and Melbourne International Business Lounges. Relax in the comfort of stylish surrounds and enjoy a signature hot dish delivered to your chairside during selected meal times, plus an enhanced selection of freshly prepared hot and cold menu choices and snacks are also available from our buffet. For fresh espresso coffee, our Barista can make your coffee to order until midday each day.

I saw this in the monthly email, and thought it was interesting. I clicked the link and found no information. Anyone experienced this yet? Sounds like the service in SIN F Lounge, where I've been offered curry etc before.

Shame I’m flying out of BNE and SIN next internationally. Still, hoping my experience at LHR will be very nice on the way back.

Flying Internationally on QF19 from SYD to BNE, next Thursday, so I'll check it out, with futaris jr.

The other day as the cleaner (SYD T1 Jlounge) was taking away my empty glass he asked - "if I would like anything else?" Never had that happen before, and wasn't quite sure how to answer. This thread seems to confirm this as a new service level: nice.

Is it still possible to do domestic legs on international flights?

QF19 once a week SYD-BNE is possible (as is the return) and is about to become an A330, and QF81 SYD-ADL on Tuesdays, ADL-SYD on Mondays.

Sounds interesting and I can't wait to try it out.

I'm assuming that the food wouldn't be as good as the F lounge (not that I have been).

I'm on QF11 tomorrow. Will be interesting to see if this applies to Lunch

Interesting to see these changes introduced.

I can see some merit in having a waiter during meal times although I would prefer self service when it comes to drinks.

ADL-SYD on Mondays.

...and you will be greeted by an almost empty J cabin, locked bar ("we can't open it - customs rules" - but somehow they can get into the Y bar), over-brewed coffee stale food, and cabin staff wh figure they can get away with doing nothing for the whole leg.

OK, it's an A330 but that's about the only positive.

And, oh yeah, an interminable delay getting through the Sydney terminal on arrival. The stamp on your boarding pass that verifies you as a domestic traveller means nothing - you must still join the long queue at SYD immigration then front up with bags at Customs and "prove" you are not from o/s.

All up, flying on the "international" flight takes more than an hour longer than flying domestic. There's no discount pricing to compensate for all the hassle involved.

Finally, access to the J lounge is hardly compensation - you will be spending much of your time shuffling along an immigration queue.

Um, I have to say my experience doesn't tally up with yours. I suspect you may have missed a few things, like dedicated lane signage, didn't have your ID ready at the custom line, or something else.

I did the JQ3 MEL-SYD, and the whole experience was smooth and no more time demanding than through a domestic terminal.

MEL Departure Customs was a straight through affair. Follow the signposted APEC/Aircrew/D Lane and zoom to the front of the queue. Was waiting for no more than 30sec.

SYD Arrival Customs was just as simple and quick, with a dedicated lane for D pax (clearly signposted even before entering the customs hall, easily visible from at least 50m away). Baggage handling was no faster or slower than normally experienced on QF when Priority baggage fails.

Quarantine was simple, simply have ID and the boarding pass ready - and waived straight through.

Same experience and fast clearance was repeated on JQ19 SYD-OOL two days later.

I have only done a couple of these with no real issues other than self imposed (ie checked luggage).

Also if able to access the f lounge it is a considerable difference.

SYD T1 ARRIVAL as a D passenger

The stamp on your boarding pass that verifies you as a domestic traveller means nothing - you must still join the long queue at SYD immigration then front up with bags at Customs and "prove" you are not from o/s.

As others have posted, you get through arrival processes quickly if you follow the "D" channels: in SYD T1, that means keep LEFT, LEFT, LEFT!

As you approach immigration, use the absolute LEFT corridor (there are no obvious signs above this corridor, so it will feel a little odd, as everyone else will gravitate centrally/right towards the duty free, even if they don't want it!).

As you go down the ramp into the processing area, go to the far LEFT processing counter. Keep an eye out for the "D" sign (+crew, dimplomat, APEC etc as previously posted above).

Once past the baggage claim, use the LEFT most quarantine/customs exit, this time look up for the "D" sign above it.

* At slower times, "D" lanes may not be staffed, but usually when this happens the "standard queues" are not long. If you do enter a "standard queue" (when you could have used a "D" priority one) no-one will point this out to you, and you WILL WAIT your turn with everyone else.

ADL-SYD on Mondays.
For the purposes of lounge access / QP (the subject of this thread); this flight is completely redundant as ADL QP serves both INTL and DOM.
Unless you have an onward INTL connection; or its less than half price, I ask WhY?
QF ditched the Tues 1200 MELADL leg of the ADLSIN flight, was quite a handy dep for INTL QP / FL.
Although I suppose this is compensated by JQ35.
:p

Is there a J lounge in ADL? You may not even get that compensation

Nope - BNE/SYD/MEL/CBR only. I am not sure why you would take the ADL service unless you want a good INT connection, which it does provide.
