Just thinking what qantas routes have not come back since the pandemic / are not likely to make a resurgence? Just curious as wondering where Qantas is getting the 787 planes to upgrade existing routes like SYD-HNL

Off the top of my head I can think of the following routes that have not come back:
BNE-ORD
SYD-KIX
SYD-CTS (Sapporo)
MEL-SFO
BNE-SFO
BNE-HKG
PER-CGK
LAX-JFK
SYD-PEK

WIth new routes:
SYD-AKL-JFK
SYD-PER-FCO
SYD-BLR
MEL-DEL

Any others?

SYD-PEK had already been cancelled before COVID so that won't be back. LAX-JFK has basically been replaced by AKL-JFK so that won't be either. Who knows with HKG, but it's not what it was so...

Across the Pacific I think UA have made a few too many moves to allow MEL-SFO, BNE-SFO come back... and I believe the latter (alongside BNE-ORD) was part of the QLD govt deal to base some 787s there which of course is no longer the case either?

Other than that... It's weird that routes like SYD-KIX just disappeared into the ether, seemingly not to be spoken of ever again. SYD-CTS was seasonal and only ever did one period so who knows about that one.

And a new route you missed is SYD-ICN!

DRW- DIL
SYD-NLK
BNR- HIR
SYD POM

BNE ORD never took off!

A few more A380 to come back that will free up some 787 ... and 787 being flown by a330

BA aren't even flying to BKK. Tourism still nowhere near recovered since Covid.

Astonishing when AY can operate 2x daily!
TG are running double daily’s MEL-BKK. I haven’t looked into what there loads are like and perhaps they are poor.
I guess QF being short of aircraft doesn’t help and it’s in their best interests to service more profitable routes or use their LCC arm of the business to do so

QF have not flown MEL-BKK for ~20 years. Not really a route that “QF haven’t resumed” in the context of the original post of this thread. Clearly JQ works on the route for them. People aren’t forced to fly Qantas.

I feel KIX not being flown is an interesting choice.

Instead of doing double daily SYD <> HND. I could see then instead having more success doing SYD <> HND, SYD <> KIX and a MEL <> HND.

If they want to keep the SYD <> HND overnight in both directions, they can supplement with MEL being dayflight both directions.
