What is the deal with the ugly text only email itineraries? I have asked a Qantas CSR, but have been sourly told that they don't know what I am talking about and the only thing they can do is re-send it; which they did and I obviously got the same thing.
I'd like the HTML one with the yellow boxes and the arrows as I am givingit as a gift.
Does anyone know what is going on? This booking was made about 5 days ago.

If memory (and my PA) serves me right, the text only thing is the itinerary/ booking confirmation. The nice one with the boxes and stuff is the eticket I think.

Happy to be corrected.

Was it a FF redemption booking? I have only received text itineraries when I have made a FF booking or when I have cancelled a booking and rebooked over the phone. All my QF website bookings have arrived as HTML Pdf's but I haven't made one through the QF website for a little while now.

Check your settings. Go to www.qantas.com.au log on, go to your profile and at the top it asks for your preferred email format eg HTML (text & images) Text
It might fix it, but I'm no IT guru

Yes that is right, the text thing is the E-Ticket (Comes from 'Express Ticket ..something..' sender). But there was no attachment with the nice HTML document, which would be the documentary. I've never had to use an E-ticket or any of its numbers, because bookings are located with the BRN Booking Reference Number or with the QF FF Card.

This was a normal booking paid for with CC, made on the Qantas website. It was for 3 people, and I got 3 seperate emails each time. I booked something about a month prior, and got the nice one.

Could this be because it is for more than 1 person?

I have checked the seetings, and that is set to HTML so that's probably not the problem.

Also, even though this doesn't worry me much, when I click on View Booking, the surname in the URL is of the SECOND person listed on the itinerary, and not myself. Why is this, when it is viewed from my FF account, I was the first listed, and I paid for it with a CC with my name?

I agree, when Express Ticket send out an email, it is in an "ugly, old fashioned format". The only time I get an express ticket, when purchasing via the Internet, is if it involves a voucher associated purchase. Generally, for me, this type of ticketing and email occurs when I have changed a red-e deal.

I have not found a way to get a "professional looking" pdf version of an "Express Ticket".

But the thing is, I have made many QF bookings, and I have always gotten the PDF version. This is a normal domestic booking, exactly the same to the one I have made a month prior, when I got the PDF. The ONLY difference is that it is for 3 people including me- the other was for just myself. I might try ringing up Qantas again, hoping I won't have the sour puss answer the phone.

Re: Qantas Itineraries as a gift

I will make a huge assumption here; that you are organising a Christmas/Seasonal/Anniversary gift for a group of people/your family, and want to put a really nice pdf document in a card to hand out in December.

If you don't find a way to generate the standard pdf from an Express Ticket, I can only offer some lateral thinking -

Earlier this year, I purchased a "domestic QF flight" gift for my sister & brother-in-law. And instead of printing out the pdf itinerary for them, I created a card just saying - "be at the airport at a certain time, with an overnight case packed for any weather contingency". As I do not live in the same city as they do, I checked-in online on their behalf, and emailed my mother (same city) their pdf boarding passes and got her to hand them over in a sealed envelope marked "not to be opened until you get to the airport". The surprise, joy and anticipation of this gift was really appreciated.

As an aside, my sister was certain she was going bungee jumping in some exotic location, my brother-in-law sky diving, the reality - I sent them to Sydney to see U2.

I have found that when I first make an eticket booking with qantas.com, I get the "nice" format when they email me the ticket, but any subsequent changes to the booking result in the rather more harsh text-only version. Just my personal observation...

I am glad your all getting emails !
i have a bigger problem QF always seem late to ticket, i rang them last night about my trip that starts wednesday, its been booked and paid (well details accepted but not charged to card until ticketing) for atleast a week and a half. (On the + side the change in flight i made last night cost me nothing since the tickets had not been issued)

Like leny has said it seems a bit hit and miss what format it comes in i have had both formats for bookings via web site for a single person and i have no idea why they would be different, recently all however have been text.

Weird - I have only ever had text only emails from QF when they have confirmed my itinerary - generally after phone bookings or award bookings.

I recently made an award booking for J* *class MEL-BKK for myself and 3 family members and received the formal pdf itinerary for each of us. You are right that it would present much better as a gift.

In general booking made over the 'phone often get you the Text version - certainly manually sent schedule change notifications do.

The OP might like to try the LAN e-ticket print facility - It may give something better to look at.

I made a phone booking on Friday just gone. I was using a service recovery voucher, so I had to call in. Did not receive anything via email although it does show as confirmed in my bookings (i guess it isnt fully ticketed yet). Today I dropped into the QF Travel store in MEL to handover the vouchers, and by the time i got back to work had received the nice PDF's.

So perhaps calling the QF Travel number and asking them to email it to you, rather than the service centre?

I do like the suggestion of making it a surprise, though I guess it depends where you are sending them and if it is a surprise or not!

JK.

I book on the web site and request a tax invoice (I think there is a box to tick somewhere. I get the text email straight away and a pdf format invoice an hour or so later.

Never had it otherwise.

For personal travel I've always gotten the PDF and for business travel get the text based version. Sometimes with a header proclaiming business travel.

Bit hit and miss and not something I really worry about. Indeed for personal travel I would prefer the text version because it is easier to remove certain details when forwarding the itinery to people I am going to visit.

Things such as the booking reference and my QC number. They need to know when I'm there, nothing else.

Well it is very stange, because as I said, I have made many of these bookings (for personal travel) and have always gotten the PDF. I have (at least attmepted) to put the picture to show those who haven't seen it, what I am talking about.

Optics, was that done through the JQ website? I have also booked JQ *Class as well as economy and have always gotten the PDF from them.

Thank you serfty, I have tried looking the booking up through the LAN.com site, and it gives a much better overview of the booking - I think will use that. Ps: This booking was made online, and I still got the text version.

I will try ringing a QF centre and see what they can do. Thanks jpk.

codash1099: I don't recall seeing any such box, but I imagine that I would have ticked to receive any and all correspondence relating to the booking.

Hvr, indeed, but the problem in my case is that I would like to give an attractive piece of paper. I would still like to remove price info, but I can do that on a PDF through paint.

And finally, Petch, you are absolutely right, and I very much like your idea. However, after a discussion with the family, I have been told it might not be such a good idea. It is just me travelling with my grandparents (who are here from Europe), and I guess that they would expect that the tix would be to SYD. And I don't think I could hold off telling them anything about it for over 2 weeks!
