I couldn't see any other posts on this though I would have thought there would have been. Maybe 18 months ago Qantas started giving out square plastic boxes containing the Business class amenities things. I remember reading some marketing words about how aesthetically pleasing or something similar they are and you can take them home etc.

I liked the various zippered previous ones - much more useful for both toiletries and other things, and I have quite a few with various bits and pieces in them. The first time I got the plastic one I gave it back and the FA didn't seem very suprised. The second time I brought one home to show spouse with amazement.

yeah, rather ho-hum, but smaller and compact, not bad for medication etc when traveling.
I like the F ones also, can fit all sorts of things in them.
I seem to have 6 or 7 different ones from different airlines on my other table in my study.... no idea what to do with them.... grab anything i want and throw the rest i guess.

and of course, now, they have been changed again. Not 100% sure how long ago it was, but it was at the latest last October - J pax now get a grey fabric covered box with a zip around the edge. It looks MUCH more up market than the dark grey (mens) or light blue (womens) plastic boxes in the grey Qantas bag. The new ones are much bigger also which makes them less practical to take it with you... especially if you are travelling with hand luggage only .

Qantas realised they were useless and did away with them. They now have a larger (too large, IMO), flatter (too flat, IMO) soft/hard shelled zippered case. An improvement, but still nothing to write home about. They feel quite flimsy/cheap.

The Finnair J kit is still the best I've ever received. I use it for my carry-on toiletries. Perfect size and heaps of compartments, and very well made.

Cheers,
- Febs.

Thanks for the update - last time I flew J from the US was early July 08. Oh for the good old days of the very late 80's when you would get some useful and some not so useful gifts in J (this is the Asian airlines not Qantas).

IMHO the QF ones leave the CX and BA offerings for dead!

I would tend to agree to that, but the small tweed one i have on my desk is ok. I think its a J one. has Molton Brown stuff inside is ok.... actually that may be JL ? CX use a Victorinox case, JL have Shiseido, so on deduction the one i have must be BA.

Molton Brown/Tweed is BA
CX use Agnes B (long black case for men) with Murad product

I find the CX bag good for cables and gadgets when travelling but dumped about 3 on my last trip due to weight constraints..

Iberia has same but with a clip hook to close, yes excellent for medicines with all the comparments. I also use one for my digital camera extras, like cards and batteries.

BA one is average, yeah, and I've only ever flown CX shorthaul international in J, so can't comment there.

The AA one is a joke, but it's nothing compared to the JAL one (in that, the JAL one doesn't exist! Just a bunch of packets of items handed to me in a plastic bag on CDG-NRT last year.) Also (slightly off-topic) - JALways NRT-SYD - worst international business class seat ever.

JL Regional J is in my opinion sub standard compared to QF W !! see my thread a few days ago. I know thats a big call but really its not a good seat as you pointed out, sure the food etc is a bit better but seat is really important part of the journey.

JL in F still has one (and not bad either) but lack of one in J is a little sad.
