Hi All....

I am obviously a new member on this (God dam I wish I had found out about it a while ago.. would have made better use of FF programs). Have spent the last hour or so trawling through many threads (most of that on the abreviation enigma machine code breaking page) so please excuse me if I don't use all the right heiroglphics... but... anyways have a question (or 2).

Was travelling regularly between AKL and SYD for work and was splitting flights between Air NZ & Qantas based on price. Figured out the whole FF thing and thought I would take advantage of it for myself and put all my eggs in the Qantas basket to increase my status level... Have since achieved PS (hey look I used one) but have since relocated to AKL so not so many flights across the ditch... but now fly quite regularly internally down to Wellington which was all fine as could fly Qantas and still get SC (hey look another)... now the question... With Qantas pulling out of domestic runs in NZ with Jetstar (dam I could have used JQ) taking over... I am now unable to get SC on the el'cheapo flights where previoulsy I could with Qantas (my company also suggests we fly the cheapest fare so have to book the cheapies)... So... am I better off transferring across to Air NZ who will give the the same Status as part of a promo or is there some way of making the most of the JQ option? Obviously being an Aussie I would prefer to stick with Qantas....

I tried searching threads for an answer but obviously Jetstar & NZ brough up endless posts so sorry if this has been covered recently... (also sorry for the rambling post.. I've had a beer or 2 :P

Matt

Welcome altaxia (does that mean all tax here?)

Just remember that cheap fares only means cheapest when it is convenient for you to fly - think about that ;)

Excuse my ignorance here but is JQ taking all the QF routes?

Mr!

:?:

How i understand it is that from AU <-> NZ there will still be QF services but inside NZ so NZ domestic it will be all Jet*
JetConnect will only now fly to Oz and back.

Do you know if they intend to increase destinations? JQ AKL/ROT or the likes.... A nice long weekend away... ;)

Mr!

AKL/ROT is a comfortable three hour drive.

QF NZ currently fly CHC/ROT; When JQ takeover in June, this segment will be dropped.

Welcome to AFF! Do you plan on doing much travel on other carriers/routes outside of these normal trips? This could influence who you fly with, and which program to credit to.

Thanks Guys...

Have had a trawl through the links and signed up to at least get QF SC with Jetstar on the promo....

With my outside of work travel (major specials excluded) I generally try to fly Qantas purely as I have the Silver and heading for Gold, well was planning on until Qantas pulled the Pin on NZ internal. Maybe will atleast take up NZ on the status matching and see which way the flights/costs figure out with my work requirements for the 1st couple of trips and then throw all the eggs in that basket....

With the way Jetstar price there may be some very attractive SC earning opportunites while this promo runs... I know some of my kiwi based friends are very excited

I might even change my address for the rest of the year and do some cheap travelling.

One question, is the 1000-point minimum available with Jetstar NZ?

Hmm... what are the chances of it throwing up some flags if my address were to suddenly change to a Kiwi address picked out of thin air....

If you were relocated there for work till the end of the year, or took a long holiday, then technically you would be living there so I can't see how it'd be a problem. However if you changed it to get SC, then changed it back to receive your new card (silver, gold, platinum) and then back again to earn yet more SC... that might throw up some flags.

Seeing as this topic is about the Qantas/Jetstar NZ transition, would just like to mention I got an email from Jetstar this morning about a change to a flight I'd booked in June. The flight from CHC to ZQN (JQ277) is now leaving 35 minutes later. Not a big deal at all, but perhaps odd they're changing the schedules now?

Only in Jetflex fares, and then you do not need to live in NZ.

The deal is for SC's only (on saver fares) for NZ residents.

Has anyone notice Qantas has deployed alot of its own 737's (as opposed to Jetconnects) on trans-tasman services?

I would have thought they would have used Jetconnects if possible.... Its more on the Syd-AKL I noticed this happeneing, MEL flights are still mostly Jetconnect....

Note: The Qantas website is showing sporadically that Jetconnect flights are represented by the red triangle usually denoted for QF operated flights, Jetconnect usually has the green square to highlight the fact it is operated by another entity or codeshare.... Weird... it always used to be green for Jetconnect, now a mix ?

I only just realised, you also earn SC on JQ flights within and ex-Australia. It's not just an NZ-earner. :)

Remember the status match promo ends 31 May 09. NZ is also much harder to retain/obtain status on than QF, primarily because of their stupid "journey" concept for NZ flights. ie, AKL-WLG-AKL-WLG-AKL would only count as AKL-WLG-AKL if all done within 24 hours - so domestic status runs are near impossible.
