Just out

2 x 767s grounded
1 x 320
1 x 321 delviery cancelled
743's gone by December

Reduced 747-400 utilisation

JQ axe ADL-MCY, BNE-HBA and SYD-PPP as well as reduce AVV/ADL/CNS flying

QF axe MEL-AYQ and SYD-OOL and reduce SYD-AYQ

I wonder what International routes will go?

I think we may see JQ leave Osaka & Nagoya.

Now that would free up a 332 for other flying (MNL or HNL?)
I also think we may see SYD-CHC go - CHC seems to be the domain of LCC's these days!

Pay freezes for Senior Execs and deferred pay reviews for Senior Managers - could be a lot of churn in those positions...

I wonder which two 767's are in the firing line for a grounding?

Not sure of tail numbers, but they are due to receive a few more 738's this year so they could replace some 767 flying with 738 flying.

Probably OJA and OJB/OJC as they are about to hit the 20 year birthday, mind you the BA birds are not far behind. OJA forced me into an unproductive 4 hour wait at PER QP last night and a very nice 3.45AM arrival into BNE this morning owing to a tech fault.

Have to admit I am perplexed by the A320 grounding, using fuel as an excuse does seem odd, I suspect its pilots as well.

You know it is serious when they are talking about redundancies and freezing executive executive salaries and deferring pay reviews.

Where does this leave them with all the orders for 787s and A380s and plans of expansion? Not a fun time to be in the airline business....

Pretty well placed I would think. The A380 is more fuel efficent than the 747's... don't they burn 20% less fuel even with the extra seats??

Also the commited 787's are pretty much enough to cover the current 767's and could also be used to repalce the 330's if needed.

I think this is where they were clever as they can use these aircraft for growth if it allows OR jsut use it to bed down the older less fuel efficient older aircraft in case of a down turn.

The bit I would be worried about is all the smaller planes they have ordered ie the 737/320's. I can see the order for 737's replacing their existing fleet, but the 320's were pretty much all growth....

Jetstar will continue to offer more than 140 return services to the Gold Coast each week, including up to 10 services a day on the Sydney-Gold Coast route.
"The Qantas Group, through Jetstar, remains the largest carrier in and out of the Gold Coast."

Jetstar better keep its damn QP operational at OOL... otherwise DJ better start building a the Lounge!

Actually, both please!

Is SYD-SFO at risk - usually a very quiet plane as far as pax numbers go?

I wonder if this post will go mental in the same way the AA post on FT went crazy when AA made its announcement a few weeks ago!

I thought this one was always chockers - or is that LAX?
SYD SFO has been pretty full the two times I have taken it.

The loss of QF on the gold coast will almost certainly mean no more QP at this airport. Thats ordinary.

I would hope Jetstar keep all their routes espcially the SYD-KUL. Its a nice little earner for SCs for me.

However, seeing the flights are hardly ever full does not fill me with confidence it will make the cut.
