I used the BA lounge (pre-COVID). Cramped, but good food offering

Managed to snap up a Classic Rewards Johannesburg -> Sydney in Business Class, just wondering about lounge access in Joburg?

Qantas website says Virgin Atlantic Partner Lounge - https://www.qantas.com/au/en/qantas-experience/at-the-airport/airport-lounges/all-qantas-airport-lounges/airport-lounge-locations.html/jnb/virgin-atlantic-clubhouse.html?int_cam=au:all-qantas-airport-lounges:heading-and-links:africa-airport-lounges:en:nn

However it also mentions Aspire Lounge (which now goes to 404 error) - https://www.qantas.com/au/en/qantas...irport-guides/johannesburg-airport-guide.html

Are both lounges available? Any feedback on the lounges over there?

Johannesburg - Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse

Once seated the staff will take your F&B order and serve once ready. I was there in late November, and it was decent place to spend a few hours. The BA Lounge wasn't going to be open in time for me prior to boarding QF64. I've used it before and it's ok as well.

That looks better than BA. The other QF designated lounge previously wasn’t much good by all reports? The Shongololo? Or Monshonza? Lounge.

The Moshonzha Lounge is very ordinary and the Shongololo is slightly better but not outstanding.

IIRC, as a SG I ended up in the Mashonzha Lounge because the BA Lounge was being renovated at the time 🤔 mid 2019.

Also, the last trip Nov '22 the lady at check in said I only had access to the Virgin Atlantic lounge because I was WP otherwise it was the Shongololo Lounge for me. I'm none the wiser either way.

The Aspire lounge now as the Shongolo is too crowded.

I flew QF64 on 1 March in J. The lounge you get reffered to is the Aspire lounge run by Swissport. BA lounge was closed (opens at 4 pm, even if website says 3 pm so too late for the 4:35pm departure) It was underwhelming to say the least. Food and beverage offering was average, the lounge itself is tired, furniture is old and carpets dirty. Strangely it has very good bathroom facilities.

I didn’t try and get into Virgin Atlantics lounge, but if you can suggest you try it. Was there years ago and it was very good.

Enjoy the trip in J - makes a big difference on the 12 hour trek back ;)

Hi,

Additional question around the JNB lounge situation.
Besides solo travel this year to JNB return Syd, I'm heading with family next year.
As a WP (by this trip I will be), are there lounges you can take the family into (wife and 2 kids)?

I think BA has a 1 guest policy and no kids I believe.
Flying QF.

Thanks

The QF policy of allowing kids in addition to the adult guest (in their own lounges) is quite unique - most lounges including BA do not do this.

I only used the Aspire lounge end of 2022
