Hey guys,

I'm booked on a PER-SIN flight in December that has just got the 763-treatment. I rang up yesterday to check if I could swap to the later A333 flight, only to find out that I had to pay a A$75 change fee despite being on a K-class fare. I was under the impression that K-class fares do not incur the change fees (at least this was what was mentioned to me when I asked another phone operator earlier in the year).

Does anyone know what the actual fare rules say regarding change fees for K-class fares?

Thanks guys for all the help!

K is just the booking class. The fare rules are defined by the fare basis. For a fare basis KHSS (which is available for PER-SIN return), the penalties are listed as:

UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED
CHANGES
ANY TIME
CHARGE AUD 60.00 FOR REISSUE/REVALIDATION.

CANCELLATIONS
ANY TIME
CHARGE AUD 250.00 FOR CANCEL/NO-SHOW/REFUND.

of course, an agent including the airline can charge a service fee on top of that.

Hi there NM,

Thanks for your quick response.

The actual fare basis I got off my eticket is 'KLSS1YSG'... I guess that won't change anything?

Thanks again!

Cheers.

That fare basis implies the following:

It books into K class
Its valid for "low" season departure dates
Its a Super Saver fare
Its valid for 1 Year
It was sold in Singapore

I cannot find the actual fare rules associated with that specific fare basis. but given its a Singapore point of sale, its quite likely that the change fee is different to the Australian fare from which I quoted the $60 change/reissue/revalidation fee.

Still does not change the fact that any agent is entitled to add their own service fee on top.

Thanks very much NM... Appreciate all your help!

This ticket was actually bought as SIN-PER-SYD-PER-SIN... I had the return leg (i.e. SYD-PER-SIN) changed from a V/S/S/V to V/S/K/K fare and I was quite specifically advised by the agent on the phone when I made the change that there would be no change fees involved in future with the upfare to K... looks like he really meant only for the domestic sector (which is booked into the KIPOX fare basis).

Hi guys,

Thanks for your replies!

Yes, there is an additional A$80 local service fee on top of the change fee. I've decided to suck it up on the 763 in any case as I've already put in a points upgrade request when the flight opened up for upgrades and I don't want to be chucked to the back of the queue again if I switch to QF71.

Cheers,
wenglock.

Note there is some doubt that "time of request" has any real bearing on the "pecking order" for the granting of points upgrades these days.

Having posted that, since there is a doubt, it does not hurt to get your request in as soon as you can.
