Qantas today announced the launch of its new iPad app – a digital edition of the Qantas in-flight magazine Qantas The Australian Way.

From 1 March, Qantas customers will be able to access the Qantas magazine anywhere, anytime - making it their personalised travel library.

Qantas CEO Alan Joyce said he was thrilled to launch a vibrant digital version of the inflight magazine for the iPad.

“This was the obvious next step for our ever popular magazine. Our magazine is Australia’s best read in-flight magazine and we know our unique content will provide iPad users with a valuable resource for their travel planning,” Mr Joyce said.

“This new app means that people all around the globe, including Australians living overseas, will be able to enjoy Qantas The Australian Way.

The print version of Qantas The Australian Way will still be carried on all Qantas domestic and international flights and available for customers to take home. The digital app version is a response to customer requests for subscriptions, back copies, digital files and page re-prints over the years.

Customers will now have access to all of the great features of the print edition with its famous city guides, news, sport, business and leisure features and the app edition will include additional videos and photo galleries.

The Qantas magazine app is available at the App store and is free to download from 1 March 2012. Search for Qantas magazine.

Having flicked through the entire magazine I’m quite happy with their first effort. A few multimedia touches work really well, and as I’m not flying this month I now don’t have to worry about sneaking into a lounge to get ahold of a copy.

I could think of a wide range of things QF could do before spending money on this......

I think you will find its ACP that really spent the money, and increasing circulation is not really spending money when it comes to advertising rates!

Fair enough. I hope QF get better %s from ACP since the circulation is increasing. One ponders that once IFE goes the way of the iPad/tablet/own device, the hard copy will be a goner (with associated weight and thus fuel savings).

It has been available on the website for quite some time, I guess the diffeence now is it is formatted for the IPad, rather than for the web.

I was never really a fan of the web-based version. I seem to recall it used Flash, so was always annoying on a Mac, and don’t recall if it was as interactive as they’ve tried for on the current iPad version.

Being the first issue it’s a good effort and I hope they continue to tweak and improve the experience by making it more interactive.

I downloaded it last night. I liked it a lot. Took me a while to get used to scrolling down to complete the articles. Was impressed with the additional race car sounds, videos & water drop effect.

I think that they have done well to enhance the mag and not simply publish a PDF version of the hard copy. Then again, I never saw the flash version.

I say well done.

PS. LH have their own mag for iPad too but its more like a PDF version of their hard copy.

I initially downloaded the app to my desktop but it failed to sync to my iPad and I can't seem to force it to. The system seems to think it's synced. Anyone else struck this?

Call me old fashioned, but give a printed copy any day.

To minimise weight I think we'll see fewer magazines on board as time goes by.
The iPad mag helps QF get there... and I thought the first effort was pretty good also

It installs to News Stand, have you checked if it’s there…

Love how there's a subtle advertisement for Emirates in there which is hidden in the Camper and "Camper powered by Emirates Team New Zealand"
