I am heading OS next year with most of the flights either QF or BA. I was thinking of joining Qantas Club as they currently have a promotion where you get 25,000 points however I know there are quite a few rules regarding when you can actually access the lounges.

My question is can I access the JFK and/or LHR lounge if I fly BA from JFK to LHR? The flights will be reward point flights - Economy or PE.

Or would I be better off joining PRIORITY PASS? I am not a frequent traveller...

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Yes as a Qantas Club member you would be entitled to access a BA lounge when you are flying BA.

I thought you had to be QF Silver to get entry on BA regardless of paying for Qantas Club. I was Bronze in 2001 as a paying QP member and was denied access in both LHR and Gatwick because I was not OW Ruby.

Think it's the same with AA.
Can anyone confirm?

BA is a partner airline and QP members can access their lounges when traveling on BA or QF. I have done so on many occasions prior to attaining status with QF ( the dragons usually had to check their cheat sheet at the door ;p )
Access to AA is via OW ( oops wrong again) AA is also a partner airline and AC can be accessed in the same way

You are right PF, they must have changed it since I was NB 10 years ago!

QF website says so, but only for AA and BA.

Other OW airlines still are restricted:
"Qantas Club members with Bronze or Silver status are unable to access oneworld alliance airline lounges with the exception of British Airways and American Airlines® lounges which can be accessed as part of our partner airline agreement."

QF Silver / OW Ruby confers no lounge access rights whatsoever, on any airline.

Qantas have a partner agreement with BA and AA that gives lounge access to Qantas Club members when travelling with Qantas or the airline operating the partner lounge, and this has nothing whatsoever to do with OW.

It takes QF Gold / OW Sapphire to gain general OW lounge access benefits, and at that point lounge access is available for any OW airline's (business class) lounge when travelling with a OW airline.

Yep, correct.

Back in 2001 however, a Qantas Club member could not access BA lounges unless they were also Silver or above. Glad to see that archaic rule has disappeared.

Consider getting a platinum AMEX charge card for one year - currently they have an offer that gives you 75,000 points and it includes free membership to Priority Pass - admittedly, it is only for the primary card holder and a guest may require an additional fee. Even still, if you do the sums, may still work out better than the cost of joining QP.

Perhaps, but the PP does not get you into any QF BA or AA lounges.

That rule never existed. It's more likely that the BA lounge dragons just didn't understand the rules. When I was QP I had to point out to a few of them that I was indeed eligible to access the BA lounges. After a bit of lip from them, they looked up their sheets and let me in.

Either way, as stated you should have no issues at all with BA or AA.

If you have paid QP membership, you can access BA and AA lounges providing you meet the criteria for onward flights with the necessary carriers.

My friend used his QP membership (whilst NB) at AA and BA lounges zero questions asked. I was travelling with him as PS QP and also, zero issues anywhere.
