Sent my Mum on a J award on CX a few weeks ago ex BNE.

Mum doesn't use lounges very much, the ones she has been to are primarily DOM Syd and BNE.

She said that she went to the Qantas Lounge and the lounge dragon pointed her in a different room than others. She said there was 1 computer, and only a very small selection of meats. It was the "redemptions" lounge.

What is this? I have never heard of it. I haven't flown out of BNE INT.

It just doesn't sound right ... Mum did say it was def the QF lounge though. I have no photos, so I can't check.

It upsets me that they would treat a redemption differently to someone on a J? Whenever I travel J out of SYD, it is normal to me as if it was a paid ticket.

Can anyone shed some light please?

She is coming home from HKG soon, hopefully the Wing or Pier will not be like this :!:

In Brisbane, Qantas has two lounges. The Qantas Club (Business) lounge, and the First lounge.

The First lounge is accessed via a sliding door on the left hand side of the reception desk. The Qantas Club is accessed via another sliding door straight ahead from the reception desk (IIRC, it's on the right hand side).

Both lounges are similar food&beverage wise. The biggest differences that I've noted is "gold-colour rimmed" plates in the F lounge (The plates they used to use in First class I think), the F lounge being smaller, and the F lounge having no view of any interest (whereas the Business lounge looks over the departures area).

Computer wise, there aren't many in either lounge, but I think the F lounge has two, vs a couple more in the J lounge.

The Brisbane International lounges need a big revamp. They are showing their age, and are one of the poorest International lounges in the Qantas network.

.... and (as mentioned recently) the F lounge has a better standard of beverage.

Mum said there was only 2 computers, and they looked cruddy too. How can Qantas have such a bad lounge for BNE? It's not like it's a tiny town ....

And the lack of food there?

Oh geez ... shame on you QF. If I lived in BNE permanently, I would be pretty annoyed/dissatisfied as a QP member.... sounds like even CBR is better !!!!

So the question remains, did she enter through the door to the left of the service desk? If so, it was the F lounge.
And the lack of food there?
It depends on the time of day. There is a period between breakfast and lunch offerings when the pickings are a little thin.

With no F flights from BNE, its really a Emerald Lounge. Its certainly not a patch on a real QF F Lounge.

Sounds like the Brisbane QF First Lounge... We went through BNE recently and found it to be small, shabby & outdated, noisy and a disgrace on QF international lounge standards.

You've summed it up well. And I've seen nothing officially that Qantas cares about it and is going to do something about it.

Compare to the new Emirates lounge in Brisbane which opened up earlier this year... the passengers luckily enough to use that lounge must think they're in a great lounge.

Quite sad really that Emirates cares about Brisbane's International customers more than Qantas.

My hunch is that Qantas will eventually rip the wall down and make the place into a big J lounge somewhat similar to other J lounges in main ports.

Agree completley with sentiments about the J lounge in BNE Intl. It's up there with the worst lounges in the QF world.

Very very tired furniture, hopeless food, the only saving grace is you get a nice view of the concourse.

QF seem to think BNE is a third world market - no F on the flights, and hopeless lounges.

Probably don't want to spend money on BNE, they seem to be slowly funneling all the PAX they can to OOL. After saying that, there was still a red wine stain on a chair that I sat on, 1 year after my errr accidental spill.

PER international is another port that QF seems to be loosing interest in, they have one of the lowest arrive/departing flights there, so forget upgrades to the QP there.

Just hope DJ bites the bullet and buys B777-200ER's, direct flights from PER to LHR, or any European City would make the Red Rat improve it's standing in the West.................

Cheers Dee

Well there’s dead space above the QF lounge/s, so I’d always thought they’d have the F/Emerald lounge up another level.

I didn't think that Qantas had any First class services that departed from BNE and hence the lack of investment in the lounge. However it would be great to see a new lounge given the recent expansion of the international terminal and to finally bring Brisbane up to the standard of SYD or MEL.

Just out of curiosity does Adelaide or Perth have any international first class lounges and are they on par with Brisbane?

Neither do. However, the best comparison would be AKL Intl, where Qantas has an F lounge, but no F flights.

Lounge is better than the Brisbane equivalent.

What gives you that impression?

I don't see Qantas funnelling any services to OOL, they're still operating all from BNE.

I also would have thought they'd discard the F lounge, I can't see F services running with QF anytime in the near future, or are they obliged to offer an F lounge as part of the OW membership??

Dee Thom, I'd say the exact opposite is happening, as QF have pulled completely out of OOL, making it a DJ and JQ only port (a LCC airport for the leasure market)...

Try booking, or redeeming points on a flight to/from Japan, you get directed to either JQ flights from OOL and CNS, or via SYD, you don't get to fly JAL unless you actually ring QF and stipulate their OW partner.
