I just scratched my arm on this table in the LAX QF Flounge
What sort of moron designs a table surrounded by sharp metal spikes?

I think the person who bought that style of table for public areas has a lot to answer for. If you got a scratch, I would imagine that those spikes are really quite unclean.

I was in the QF LAX Flounge a few weeks ago.

I didn't sit at those tables, but here is how they are supposed to be:



And that's the way they were... at least a few weeks ago... next to the dining area... with the glass tops much larger than the stand.

The glass had moved? Or replaced with a smaller one?

It sure looks dangerous!

Qantas longe furniture that bites

Those type of Coffee tables with metal spikes and one single glass base known as " Warren Platner" are certainly in Vogue at the moment ( I have one myself in my apartment ) which can be purchased from replica furniture stores such as Matt Blatt.
In my experience, The glass can move off centre with a forceful
Bump into the table , and needs to be readjusted so that glass nearly covers all the metal spikes if the glass was off centre. The metal spikes themselves are not sharp edged ( as it would break the glass if they were) although if the metal spikes are exposed obviously the risks include clothing catching the spikes and a risk of the glass falling off.

All in all, I'm happy with my Purchase of a Warren Platner coffee Table.

Based on the two pictures OP's and yours I would agree that it seems the glass has been enhanced and shrunk. Perhaps they decided they needed more room in the area and reducing glass size was a way of achieving this?

Indeed the table is a design classic, much like many other pieces used in the lounge. Someone has replaced the glass with the wrong sized glass top.

The piece should be removed until the correct size is found to replace it. But that is the least of Qantas's problems atm.....

Hi Austman, I don't recall any metallic chairs when I was there last night. I recall that area as being filled with lounges, but I was pretty tired, so could be wrong!

The sharp tables are against the angled window where you can look out and enjoy the view of the Korean Air lounge (i.e. to the left of your photo.) There are red recliner chairs along the window, and in between the chairs they have put the sharp tables. They appear to be the same as in your photo, but with smaller diameter glass.

Hi russ, It's not my photo - it's a press one I think. But I did take a photo when I was in the LAX Flounge dining area a few weeks ago and I can see, in the background of my photo, that the tables are exactly same as the photo I posted (with the glass much larger than the metal base).

So it's probably just some of the tables?

I thought the photo you posted must have been a table in a different area because the floor was wood (not carpet).

They must have got the glass top sizes mixed up - it's clearly wrong - and potentially dangerous!

I think OPs photo is from the small tables where the lounge chairs are (the ones facing the hallway that takes you to the KE lounge and QF J lounge). I was in the lounge for 14 hours+ last time and didn't have an issue with the tables (I sat there the whole time). But I can see how one can be wearing shorts or how uncovered areas can be scratched by these edges.
