Qantas Magazine says I can check in on my iPhone?

I didn't bring my Qantas mag off the plane with me, and I can't remember exactly what it said, but I'm quite sure it said that I was now able to check-in online, on my iPhone, and choose a seat "in the car on the way to the airport"?

Now, that's definitely not available for me on my iPhone using the iPhone-version of Qantas, com,au (I can use the normal version, but it's quite annoying). Indeed, I still need to remember my booking reference number (who actually remembers this?!) rather than just plugging in my QFF number, which would be so much easier.

Perhaps it's something that will be coming sometime in September? Perhaps also something to do with the new QFF membership cards with barcodes on the back -- i.e. maybe it will show as a barcode on my iPhone that I'll show to the Qantas people when I'm giving them my bags?

So I guess two questions I have:
1. Am I the only one to see it? Was I imagining it, or was it actually written in the mag?
2. Where's my iPhone optimised OLCI?!?!

I can't vouch for what the magazine says, but I use my iPhone on a regular basis to OLCI.

I login to the QF website with my FF details and go to my bookings, select it, and OLCI, just as I would on my normal computer.

I know someone that has managed to even have the 3D barcode scanned at the gate (on the PDF that's produced when you complete OLCI), but the onboard crew need the piece of paper to verify you're on the right bird.

Safari on the iPhone is just a browser. It's a little less featured that a desktop one, but it works just fine for OLCI using the full QF site (not that shockingly bad web app).

Of course you'd still need a paper boarding pass. The QuickCheck machines can issue one, as can the check-in agents, or if you're QC/SG/WP, in the lounge (if no checked luggage).

I just reinstalled the QF app on the iPhone and there seems to be a little more functionality in that I can now search for my booking. No sign of an OLCI icon though - I will test on Thursday before going to BNE on Friday.

Yeah, the 'View Your Booking' has been there for a while though.

I also use Safari on my iPhone to do OLCI sometimes, but I find it slow and bulky. It would be awesome if it could just do it in a simple way, i.e. mobile-optimised. It takes me like 10 minutes to do via 3G now, I reckon because it's trying to load so much. Remove most of the page I don't need and just show me the check-in bits and it would be better.

At the very least let me plug in my QFF# instead of my booking number (which I can never remember) to dbl check what time my flight is.

I guess I'll have to wait and see...

You can through the full site. Login with your QFF details and select 'Your Bookings' on the left. This lists all your bookings and you can OLCI from within them. You don't need to manually input the PNR to OLCI.

But yes, some kind of easier way to checkin via phone would be nice.

FWIW, the iPhone Qantas App is just a Web App disguised as a real App. They could still do a nice webapp for iPhone to allow easier checkin and even login to QFF (Like ANZ has done for banking). Qantas will catch up eventually i'm sure.

And slightly un-related, I found it deathly slow when I was on Optus. I've since changed carriers and it's far faster now. Optus' 3G network is so over-subscribed, 3G is not up to par:)

Yep, i'm with telstra network and speed is not a problem with doing OLCI, on iPhone.

As others have mentioned just go to the full qantas website and login there using your FF number. the browser normally, reverts to the iphone app website, just go to the bottom of that page and select the link to the full qantas.com site. Then bob is your father's brother.
