Hi all,

Booked an internet fare with QANTAS in January to Singapore.

Return economy valid for 12 months.

In the T & C it said (and still says under fare conditions on the website),that I can make changes to the date of return online - free of charge.

Trying to change the flight back but it keeps trying to slug me with a $50 fee. Emailed QANTAS asking whats going on, and keep getting generic responses from uninterested staff telling me to call a certain number (overseas of course - sounds like fun! not).

Is there any way of making somebody listen to my complaint and fixing it?

Ive read the T &C countless times and it seems likea glitch in QANTAS' online booking change system. But unfortunately the useless people I am dealing with via email wont look at where I am directing them, hence I am getting nowhere.

This is what it says under the T &C for the particular fare I purchased ;

Service Fee: For changes made to Economy bookings through Qantas Telephone Sales, Airports and Qantas Travel outlets, a service fee of A$60 per passenger applies for all changes.
There are no service fees for changes made online.

Am I missing something?

Any advice from anyone?

Cheers.

No "service" fees but there would still be a change fee plus any difference between the new fare price and original price paid. The T&C basically means you pay $60 more on the phone than you would online, but it doesn't mean to change online is free.

Phone Qantas reservations ( use something like skype and a call to Oz is preety cheap or just phone local reservations office ) and ask them why there is $50 being charged for the change and they should be able to explain why it is happening or whether there is a mistake; anything here, without having the detailed fare rules and dates etc will be just speculation

$50 is certainly the normal itinerary change fee that is applicable to most fares PER-SIN and are normally like this on the fare condition:

Before and after departure:
Return booking changes can be made online at qantas.com/yourbooking. To make changes to one-way bookings, multi-city bookings, or to make changes via phone, call 13 13 13. For changes made over the phone you must pay the service fee applicable as at the date of the change.
Itinerary changes permitted. At the time of making the change, you must pay (per person per change):
the itinerary change fee applicable as at the date of the change
any fare difference

Flexi-Saver fares typically do not have a change fee but ordinarily have a clause allowing Qantas to charge any fare difference.

Where are you currently, QF has toll free in some countries, eg Singapore so just call them on that number (SIN now gets routed to AU anyway).

ok well ive come to terms with the fact i have to pay $50 to change my ticket.

now i go to change online and it is coming up with an error each time i go to pay (and ive tried 2 diff credit cards - both linked to QANTAS Freq Flyer schemes).

here is the error ;

Is this a ploy to make me change over the phone and pay even more fees????

Cheers.

Possibly not... I would call up and let them know the situation and ask if you have to also pay the telephone fee. I have had bookings with both QF and JQ for children when the online system would not let me book the flights. There were no additional fees charged for the phone bookings because of this. Maybe give it a go and get back to us...
