After earning the 300 points for installing the Qantas Money App, today I remembered it - in the hope that I could access my Citibank account on my phone, where the Citibank app doesn't currently work.

So I brought up the app and entered my PIN number.
Then I was asked to login and enter my FF number, Last name, and my different PIN number.
Then I was sent a six digit code via SMS on my phone, whereupon I deleted the app.

Seriously - two PIN numbers and a six digit code?

I have asked people at a special interest site with members mainly from the USA and Europe, if anyone is having to put up with the SMS code frenzy that has infected Australia e.g an SMS code at MyGov, just to read an email, and two SMS codes at Telstra just to talk to an operator when I have an issue. There response was no, that what I described seemed extreme, and wasn't happening yet in their countries.

Would you use your Qantas Money App given its security?
Regards,
Renato

Well it's 2 factor authentication and t makes sense on a number of levels and is more secure in many respects to really verify it's you.

noting that in the QF money app, once you're established regular use is just via the 4 digit PIN unless you need to make account changes which require further authentication (again, makes sense).

The real problem with 2FA(as it's known) is for those global roaming away from home, getting into QFF account, or MyGov or whatever and sometime lack of alternatives (eg: send the code via email to your registered address).

The flip side of this annoyances to you is the ease to get into many sites, identify theft, fraud or just stealing points or money...

my 2 cents.

Well I downloaded the app, logged in and deleted said app.

150 points have now posted in my QF account. :)

As we're going overseas next week, and I still can't get the Citibank App to work on my phone, I decided to retry the Qantas Money App. I went through the same rigmarole as before after I re-installed it, but was happy to see that it now only requires one pin number to get me in.

I must say that having linked all but one account onto it, I think the App is pretty neat. It does display my Citibank balance, which was what I wanted.

There seems to be a day long delay for some accounts to show the correct balance, relative to logging onto them individually. For credit cards and payment to my Citibank card, when the entries are listed as "pending" on their respective sites, they don't show up in the Qantas App, and may then not show up for another day after they cease to be "pending". Still, a day or two's delay in getting the exact accurate balance for all accounts on the App is not going to worry me too much. The App is entirely exact with respect to showing transactions on the Qantas Money credit card.

The only card I can't access with the App is the 28 Degree Mastercard - and I've sent them a request that they include it.

Just curious - is there any other App around which does the same job as the Qantas Money App?

I find it rather bemusing that an airline is supplying an App that enables one to keep an eye on most of one's savings and credit accounts, but that the actual financial institutions themselves don't supply such an app.

Renato

I'm not sure if you are after one app from a financial institution that shows your accounts etc over more than one bank/institution but I can't imagine that happening any time soon. My banks each have apps which show a quick snapshot of financial situation without having to log in fully if you want to show that information.

Thanks, yes. The banks' individual apps are very handy to use, given their four digit pin for access. And very handy for making payments and money transfers between accounts.

What is handy about the Qantas Money App for me (assuming it doesn't get compromised) arises from the thing that happened to me some years back, where $10,000 was taken out of my CBA card in a Texas casino. Thus I like checking if there is anything odd happening with the cards. So I use several credit cards when at home, and two other cards when I'm overseas, plus I have other cards . That's a lot of four digit pins I'd have to type in to make sure nothing is going awry - I wind up hoping for the best, and just monitoring the cards I'm currently using in whichever part of the world I'm in.

But with the Qantas Money app, at glance I can tell if anything is awry with one or more of my cards.

Renato
