Just received this from Qantas for flights booked (with QFF points) to SYD -> AKL on November 12 for my import/export business.

Hello,

Important Information about your flight

In response to Coronavirus and various government travel restrictions, we've had to make further changes to our network.

As a result we've had to cancel your flight QF143 from Sydney at 9:45AM on 12Nov2020.
The value of your ticket has been stored as a Flight Credit. Your Flight Credit has an expiry date of 31 December 2022 and you won't be charged any change fees on rebooking. We'll email your Flight Credit details soon, and it will also outline how to access other options available to you (including a refund).
If your booking contained a Classic Reward or Qantas Points redemption, Qantas Points will be returned to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account, and any cash component will be refunded or placed in credit, depending on your booking.
We'll be processing these as soon as possible, however due to unprecedented volumes this may take longer than usual.
Click here for information regarding the Australian Consumer Law.

We apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Funny, if I try and book seats on the "cancelled flight" I can pay for new seats. WTF? Why did they cancel my bookings? I've been on hold on 131313 for 15 minutes now to ask that question...

If they haven't cancelled the flight, why am I being cancelled? Also why was the connecting flight from CBR -> SYD not cancelled as well? And the return flight AKL -> SYD -> CBR on November 16?

Are you a NZ citizen? If not, its still unlikely that you can take this flight. Might be worthwhile to take the refund for the whole itinerary (you might need to call to ask to get it)

Edit: to add link to forum where people are waiting for their cancelled flight in order to get a refund.

I'm just on a call with Qantas today - it seems the bookings were cancelled in error. The return flight was changed, but this for some reason triggered an automatic cancellation of the entire bookings.

Bizzare!

I run an import/export business in New Zealand and I've had this flight booked for more than 8 months for a trade show. With the likelihood of a legitimate travel bubble opening up later this month, I think I'll reinstate the flights and see what happens. I can always cancel it later - half of it is business class and chances are the ACCC ruling won't change regarding COVID refunds any time soon.
